Sometimes, the biggest thing holding us back from becoming better at technology isn't the technology itself.
It's our mindset.
Today at ICE HUB's General Meeting, Ijeoma, one of our Product Design students, presented on "Understanding Fixed Mindset and Growth Mindset."
At first, it sounded like a topic about personal development.
But as we continued listening, we realized how deeply it connects to what we are all experiencing as learners at ICE HUB.
Whether you are learning Product Design, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Web Development, or Mobile App Development, there will be moments when something simply refuses to make sense.
A design doesn't work.
A dataset doesn't give the expected result.
A security concept feels complicated.
Your code throws an error you have never seen before.
Your mobile app keeps breaking.
And then comes that small voice: "Maybe I'm just not good at this."
That is where mindset becomes important.
A fixed mindset can make a difficult challenge feel like proof that we lack the ability. It can make us avoid difficult tasks, fear failure, give up easily, or see mistakes as evidence that we cannot succeed.
But a growth mindset looks at the same situation differently; "I don't understand it yet."
That word "yet" changes the conversation.
It means the failed design is feedback.
The confusing dataset is something to investigate.
The cybersecurity concept is something to study again.
The coding error is something to debug.
The broken app is another opportunity to learn.
Ijeoma's presentation reminded us that skills and abilities can develop through effort, learning, practice and determination, and that mistakes are part of the learning process,
Thank you, Ijeoma, for bringing such an important conversation to today's General Meeting.
