HISTORICAL MONUMENTS:
These attractions include the trench fortifications spanning much of Turan and Ikurav- Ya districts in Kwande Local Government Area which are the surviving relics of the creative battle technology adopted by Tiv people to ward off Chamba invasions in the 19th century. The Royal, Niger Company trading stores are still visible at Gbeleve near Katsina-Ala. The tomb of the legendary politician Chief J .S. Tarka is a significant scenic view in Gboko town. Swem is another scenic site at the foot of Cameroon Mountains in Kwande Local Government to which historians trace the origins of Tiv people. Utonkon in Idomaland hosts a scenic view which is believed to be an ancient slave market for southern buyers of the northern slaves. This site now serves as a lO-day periodic market and is marked by a thick forest. A visitor will certainly be fascinated by the scenic views of the palaces of the traditional rulers, especially the palaces of the Tor Tiv in Gboko and the Och'Idoma in Otukpo.
