My Journey (so far) as a Woman in the Tech Industry
Being a woman in the tech industry where the workforce is mainly dominated by males can be tough and it can be difficult command respect, especially when you are just starting out in your career.
I want to share how it feels like to be a woman and be empowered in the tech industry, regardless of your designation in the company.
I remembered the first day in tech school, I was nervous seeing mostly men around, omo when HTML was introduced to me although I was taught HTML in school then but this one was in another dimension 🙈 my tuitor Hezekiah Lawson encourage me that I will sail through, I almost gave up but the passion i had for tech was top notch 💪
I saw that it was not about being male or female that made the difference, it was the ability to learn fast and seize the freedom to make good decisions that set you apart as a professional.🧑💻
I started doing my own research on HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, REACT, for the frontend and later move to PHP (laravel)I was able to start understanding codes and interpret codes🤞 .I made it a point to listen to people and observe every little detail of a conversation, which taught me a lot.
Fortunately, I am also blessed with amazing mentor, Favour, Ofofonono ,Godwin heze ,they inspire me! Life with them is a simple equation — High Energy + Action = Growth. Opportunities are always there, but the ability to identify them, pursue them and learn from them is a huge challenge. Great mentors help you through that phase where you are struggling to get past certain obstacles to reach your end goal. You can also decide to empower yourself.
