THE FIRST THING TO FIX BEFORE HIRING ANOTHER STAFF

When a business starts getting busy, the next thought is usually:

"I think I need another person."

Sometimes, that's the right decision.

But sometimes, the real problem isn't that you need more people.

It's that the same tasks keep coming back every single day.

Imagine this.

A customer makes a payment.

Someone checks the payment.

Someone copies the customer's details into a spreadsheet.

Someone sends a confirmation message.

Someone updates another app.

Now imagine that happens 30 times in one day.

The work isn't difficult.

It's just repetitive.

Here's the question.

Does that really need a person?

Or does it need a better system?

That's what automation helped me understand.

Automation isn't about replacing your staff.

It's about taking repetitive work off their plate so they can focus on work that actually needs a human being.

Helping customers.

Closing sales.

Solving problems.

Building relationships.

Those are the things that move a business forward.

Before you hire another employee, take a close look at your workflow first.

You might discover that your business doesn't have a people problem.

It has a systems problem.

I have a question.

Why are we still sending five emails just to schedule one meeting?

I hear questions like

Are you free on Tuesday?

No.

What about Wednesday?

I am fully booked.

"Thursday?"

And before you have agreed on a date, you have already exchanged five emails.

And that is just to book one meeting.

This is why I always recommend Google Calendar's Appointment Scheduling.

Instead of going back and forth, you simply send your booking link.

The other person chooses a time that works for them, and the meeting is added to both calendars automatically.

Done.

No unnecessary emails.

No double booking.

No chasing people for a response.

It is one of those simple features many founders already have but rarely use.

Productivity isn't always about working longer hours.

Sometimes, it is about removing the little things that quietly take up your time.

Because those little things have a way of adding up.

Today, I spent time learning automation.

And somewhere in the middle of building the workflow, something clicked.

I used to think automation was for big companies with large teams.

Now I don't think that's true anymore.

I started imagining a founder who has to check every payment manually.

Reply to customer emails.

Update spreadsheets.

Send follow-ups.

And then do it all again the next day.

It's exhausting.

Not because the work is difficult.

But because you're spending time on things that could happen automatically.

That's when I understood what automation is really about.

It's not replacing people.

It's giving business owners one less thing to worry about.

That's the kind of work I want to do more of.

Helping founders build simple systems that take repetitive work off their plate, so they can spend more time growing their business instead of running after it.

I think we put too much pressure on Mondays.

New week.
New goals.
New habits.
New version of ourselves.

Sometimes, all you need is one new skill.

I have stopped measuring my weeks by how busy they are. I measure them by what I learned.

This week, I am learning automation.

The more I understand how systems work, the more value I can bring to the people I work with.

Staying curious has opened more doors for me than staying comfortable ever did.

One hour of learning today can save you hundreds of hours tomorrow, and that is a trade I will make every single time.

A year ago, this would have taken me almost a week.

Today, it took me less than an hour.

Not because the work became easier, but because I became better at it.

There was a time I would look at beautiful portfolio websites and immediately assume they were built by people far more experienced than me.

My first portfolio tested my patience. Every little change felt like a challenge.

Then I built another.

And another.

Today, I just finished my new Executive Virtual Assistant portfolio, and the biggest thing I noticed wasn't the website itself.

It was how much I have grown without even realizing it.

Sometimes we are so focused on what is next that we forget to appreciate how far we have already come.

If you have been putting off learning a new skill because it feels overwhelming, keep going.

One day, you will look back and realize the thing that once took you days now takes you minutes.

That is the kind of progress no one can take away from you.
