A few years ago, I had just come back from the USA. At that time, I wanted to develop an application; an e-hailing app like Uber. So, I decided to register my car; a Toyota Corolla to run Uber operations for a month. At that time, I wanted to understand the Uber business model and ofcourse, within that one month I saw the issues with the Uber e-hailing business model. Then I wanted to start building our own e-hailing application, but I became too busy with other things, so I had to leave the proposed development.

Interestingly, at that time, I was even building a FinTech solution which is positioned on how foreign exchange and cash would be handled across Africa, starting with Nigeria.

During my one-month Uber experiment, I picked these 2 incredible passengers from the Ikeja airport at about 7.00pm that night to the Lekki corridor of Lagos. I remember dropping Gilbert Ouko MBA, CISA, SCS, RCS, CRC, CCFC at his hotel, while i proceeded to dop Nnenna Irebisi-Okoli off at her location at Oniru, Lagos. She requested for my complementary card, I remember asking her how she wanted to collect an "Uber driver's" complementary card, Lol. she smiled and simply said "You are not an uber driver" and we both laughed about it.

By the time I woke up the next morning, I didn't even know Nnenna Irebisi-Okoli had written about her experience riding in my car on LinkedIn; I was so shocked to read about her pleasant commentaries about her experience riding in my car.

While I suspended the continuation of the development, I decided to proceed with the application build earlier this year, not even knowing there is a planned exit of Uber out of Nigeria. Then suddenly, the shocking News of the exit of Uber came. For me, its time for us to fill a unique vacuum and take a chunk of that market.

It is very important to note that our platform is designed to incentivize the drivers greatly and ofcourse the riders too.

In the coming days, we shall be bringing our world class e-hailing platform to the general public.

If you have not met me before, I am one of the most interesting and intellectually daring human beings you can ever meet in your lifetime.

About 10 years ago, I saw this image on Facebook of final-year students' projects in a dump site. When I saw it, I was shocked and I shook my head. I whispered to myself that I am sure a majority of the people whose final-year projects are here would still be poor by now, yet they claimed to have gone to school and written final-year projects. I wondered in pity for them, whoever they are. Perhaps largely because our education is not really functional and a lot of people are inherently mentally lazy.

I remember saying at that time that If you give ALL of these projects, i will create a world-class Startup out of ALL of them. When I say ALL of them, I mean ALL; I am not mincing my words. That is how intellectually daring I am.

Recently, in one of my musing moments, I was beaming with smiles. I remembered my final-year school project. I knew it is time to do what I know how to do best. Innovate what does not exist!

At that time, my final-year project topic was Risk Asset management in a financial institution (A case study of First Bank of Nigeria Plc). I went looking for my extra copy in the deepest corners where it was stored; I saw the copy with crispy dry papers. I knew it was time to innovate a world-class Startup out of it.

Guess what? I have built a Startup out of my final-year project. It was a tough brainstorming session to have been able to do this, but I did it. The Startup I have innovated will help financial institutions protect the engine that helps them administer credit to customers. Built for the African market.

The pre-money SAFE valuation of my Risk asset management Startup is $9,000,000.00 (Nine Million Dollars).

Over the years, I have heard that most founders of fintech companies were former bankers. At the time I started leading my team building Fintech solutions, I did not even remember I was once a banker. All I knew then was to find a way to solve payment problems, and that was when we developed phoonePOS, an agency banking solution powered by mobile phones.

Recently I started having some deep thoughts, and the dots started to connect.

For those who are large importers, one of the requirements of safely importing is for you to open a very important document called a Form M, and that would require that your bank have to pay your suppliers. It is the safest way to do importation business without the fear of losing money. So, many years ago at First Bank, the only way to pay your suppliers was through Telex. Processing Form M payments was part of my responsibilities when I was working in the International Banking Operations department of First Bank of Nigeria Plc, now First Bank HoldCo.

At some point, the bank thought it wise to migrate to a higher and more reliable payment infrastructure. That higher infrastructure was to migrate to Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT). At that time, no bank in Nigeria knew what SWIFT was, so First Bank at that time was the first to deploy SWIFT for its international payments. Guess what? I was part of that very first team of people that attended that training on the magical operations of SWIFT. In fact, I can proudly say I was the person that set up SWIFT in First Bank at that time. Then, of course, it meant nothing to me. There was no FinTech then.

So, recently, it occurred to me that we were given a certificate at that time for participation. So now, it starts to make sense to me, where all the knowledge came to connect. Even though I was not planning to become a founder in one of the most critical sectors of payments in Africa, the reality is that it all started many years ago, just that we never knew where it would all lead to, but today the picture is clearer.
