As someone building software products, I disagree.

AI has dramatically changed how we build software—but not why experienced engineers matter.

Here's what AI does brilliantly:
✅ Writes boilerplate code.
✅ Generates APIs.
✅ Creates UI components.
✅ Explains unfamiliar code.
✅ Speeds up development.

That's a huge productivity boost.

But building a reliable product goes far beyond generating code.

Someone still has to:

• Design a scalable architecture.
• Make security decisions.
• Handle edge cases.
• Build systems that survive millions of requests.
• Optimize performance.
• Ensure data integrity.
• Integrate third-party services correctly.
• Monitor production.
• Debug failures at 2:00 AM.
• Balance speed, cost, reliability, and user experience.

AI doesn't own those decisions.

Engineers do.

The best teams today aren't replacing software engineers with AI.

They're giving software engineers AI.

The result?

One great engineer can often do the work that previously required several people—but only because that engineer knows what to build, what to question, what to verify, and what not to trust.

The future doesn't belong to engineers who ignore AI.

Nor does it belong to people who believe AI alone can build production-ready products.

It belongs to engineers who know how to collaborate with AI to build software that customers can trust.

AI is becoming the most powerful development tool we've ever had.

Software engineers remain the people who transform generated code into dependable products.

Don't confuse writing code with engineering software.
