Sharing files, sending emails and handling customer records may seem like routine tasks but one careless action can expose confidential business information such as sending a document to the wrong recipient, sharing unrestricted links or storing sensitive files in unauthorised locations can put your organisation at risk.

Here are some simple ways to prevent data exposure:
1. Double-check recipients before sending files.
2. Review access permissions before sharing links.
3. Use approved platforms to store and transfer information.
4. Share sensitive data only with authorised individuals.
5. Report accidental data exposure immediately.

Remember, protecting data isn’t just about stopping hackers, It’s also about preventing everyday mistakes.

Think before you share. Protect every piece of data.

Passwords are often the first line of defence protecting personal accounts, company systems and confidential business information but weak passwords, predictable combinations, and reusing the same password across multiple accounts can make it easier for cybercriminals to gain unauthorised access.
One compromised password could put more than one account at risk.

Here Are Password Security Habits Every Employee Should Adopt:
1. Use long, unique passwords for every important account.
2. Store credentials in an approved password manager.
3. Enable MFA wherever it is available and required.
4. Never share passwords or authentication codes with colleagues or callers.
5. Avoid saving work passwords in unauthorised applications or unsecured documents.
6. Change compromised credentials promptly and follow organisational procedures.
7. Report unexpected login alerts and suspicious authentication requests.

Your accounts are only as secure as the credentials protecting them. Remember, Make every password count, close the gaps and don't give cybercriminals an easy way in.

What seems like an ordinary file, customer record or business document could be valuable to a cybercriminal. Sensitive information can be exposed through phishing attacks, careless sharing, weak access controls or sending files to the wrong recipient.

Data provides attackers with opportunities to commit fraud, steal identities, conduct espionage and gain unauthorised access to digital systems. A data breach doesn’t always begin with a sophisticated hack. Sometimes, one small mistake is all it takes to expose information your organisation is responsible for protecting.

Here Are Five Essential Data Protection Practices:
1. Share sensitive information only with authorised people.
2. Double-check recipients before sending files.
3. Use strong passwords and protect your login credentials.
4. Follow approved procedures for storing and sharing data.
5. Report suspected data exposure immediately.

Remember, protecting data is everyone’s responsibility. Know what you’re protecting. Control who can access it. Keep it out of the wrong hands.

A message can sound professional, A video can look authentic, A voice can seem familiar but none of these alone proves that something is genuine.

These capabilities make it possible for attackers to create believable stories around fraudulent requests.
The danger is not simply that AI can produce fake content, It is that people may act on that content without independently verifying it.

Employees must also understand how their own use of AI tools can introduce security risks by pasting confidential documents, customer records, passwords or proprietary information into unapproved AI platforms may expose sensitive business information.

Employees don't need to be AI experts to spot suspicious content. Just remember 3 steps:
1. Pause - Don't rush into urgent or unusual requests.
2. Question - Check whether the request makes sense and follows normal procedures.
3. Verify - Confirm through a trusted channel before taking action.

As these tools become more powerful, the ability to evaluate digital content critically becomes increasingly important.
Think critically. Verify independently. Stop deception before it becomes a security incident.

For years, seeing someone's face or hearing their voice often provided enough reassurance to believe that a communication was genuine but now, Artificial intelligence is challenging that assumption.

A deepfake is synthetic or manipulated media generated or modified using artificial intelligence to imitate a real person's appearance, voice or behaviour.

What if the person on your screen isn’t who you think they are? What if that familiar voice giving instructions is actually AI-generated?

AI is making it easier to create realistic videos, clone voices and manipulate images. Cybercriminals can exploit this technology to impersonate executives, deceive employees, spread misinformation and carry out financial fraud.

A convincing face or familiar voice is no longer enough to prove someone’s identity.

Remember to:
1. Verify unusual requests through trusted communication channels.
2. Confirm financial transactions independently.
3. Be cautious of urgent or confidential instructions.
4. Follow your organisation’s identity verification procedures.
5. Report suspicious calls, videos and messages.

Don’t let a convincing imitation become a costly mistake. Pause, question and verify before you act.

Artificial intelligence is transforming how businesses operate, communicate and solve problems. From automating repetitive tasks to improving customer service, AI has introduced opportunities that were difficult to imagine just a few years ago.
However, the same technology that helps organisations become more efficient is also being exploited by cybercriminals.

From realistic phishing emails to cloned voices and personalised scams, cybercriminals are using AI to manipulate trust and bypass suspicion. This makes it increasingly important for organisations to combine employee awareness with technical security controls.
Employees have traditionally been advised to look for spelling mistakes, unusual formatting and suspicious grammar when identifying phishing messages.
Although these remain useful indicators, AI-generated content can eliminate many of these obvious warning signs.
A fraudulent email may now contain professional language, realistic branding and convincing references to actual business activities.
This means employees must look beyond how a message is written and examine what it is asking them to do.

How Employees Can Defend Against AI-Powered Scams

1. Verify unexpected instructions involving money, sensitive information or account access.
2. Use trusted communication channels to confirm the identity of the sender.
3. Establish additional approval procedures for high-value financial transactions.
4. Treat AI-generated content as unverified until its authenticity is established.
5. Participate in cybersecurity training that includes realistic AI-assisted scam examples.
6. Report suspicious messages and unusual communication patterns to the security team.

As AI-powered attacks become more convincing, employees must move beyond relying on obvious warning signs.
The most effective defence begins with a simple principle: verify the request, not just the message.

Cyberattacks Don’t Always Start with an Email!

A phone call from someone claiming to be IT support, a suspicious text message or a stranger asking to enter a restricted office area could be part of a social engineering attack.

Cybercriminals exploit trust, urgency, fear and curiosity to trick employees into revealing confidential information or granting unauthorised access.

Remember To:
1. Avoid making exceptions to security policies simply because someone claims to be senior or in a hurry.
2. Confirm unusual requests using a known and trusted contact method.
3. Never disclose passwords or one-time verification codes to callers.
4. Follow visitor management and physical access policies.
5.Verify changes to supplier payment information through established procedures.
6. Report suspicious calls, messages and physical encounters to the appropriate security team.

Think before you trust. Verify before you act. Report what seems suspicious.

Cybercriminals don’t always need to hack a system, they can simply manipulate the person behind it.
Sometimes, all it takes is a convincing email, a familiar voice or a seemingly harmless request.

Rather than spending time trying to break through an organisation's technical defences, attackers may target employees who have legitimate access to sensitive information, financial systems and internal networks.

This is where social engineering comes in.

Social engineering is the psychological manipulation of individuals into revealing confidential information, granting unauthorised access or performing actions that compromise security.

For example, an attacker may impersonate a senior executive and request an urgent, confidential payment. Instead of hacking the system, they manipulate the employee into doing the work for them. Through phishing, impersonation, pretexting and baiting, attackers exploit trust, urgency, fear and helpfulness to gain access to sensitive information or systems.

How to Build a Strong Human Firewall
1. Verify unexpected requests for money or sensitive information.
2. Check senders, email addresses and links before responding.
3. Never share passwords or login credentials.
4. Be cautious of urgent or pressure-filled messages.
5. Report anything suspicious.
6. Follow proper approval procedures for sensitive transactions.

Technology alone can’t stop every cyber threat. Employees are a critical line of defence by recognising threats before they succeed can prevent an attack.

Remember to stay alert, think before you act and report anything suspicious.
