As a Nigerian doctor who has practiced for over 10 years, Iโ€™ve seen one consistent truth:

Many of the illnesses we treat daily can be prevented with simple personal hygiene.

My name is Dr. Now, and from my years of practice, I want to share something important with you.

For over a decade working in clinics and hospitals across Nigeria, I have treated countless cases of infections โ€” skin infections, diarrhoea, typhoid, worm infestations, dental decay, urinary tract infections โ€” and many of them trace back to poor hygiene habits.

Let me break it down clearly ๐Ÿ‘‡

โœ… Hand Washing
Proper hand washing with soap and clean water saves lives. Before eating. After using the toilet. After handling waste. I have admitted children with severe diarrhoea that could have been prevented by simply washing hands properly.

โœ… Oral Hygiene
Brush at least twice daily. Dental infections are not minor issues. I have seen untreated tooth infections lead to serious facial swelling and systemic complications. Your mouth is part of your body โ€” care for it.

โœ… Bathing and Body Care
Regular bathing prevents fungal infections, body odour, lice, and skin diseases โ€” especially in our hot Nigerian climate. Clean skin is protection.

โœ… Menstrual Hygiene
This one is very important. Our young girls and women must be properly educated. Use clean sanitary products, change them regularly, and wash properly. I have treated reproductive infections that were completely preventable if the right information was available early.

โœ… Clean Clothing
Wear clean, dry clothes. Damp, sweaty or unwashed clothing encourages fungal infections and skin irritation. Something as simple as sun-drying clothes properly makes a big difference.

After 10 years in practice, I can confidently say this:

Prevention is cheaper than treatment.
Prevention is less painful than treatment.
Prevention saves lives.

Health does not start in the hospital.
It starts at home.

Letโ€™s teach our children early.
Letโ€™s practice it ourselves.
Letโ€™s stop being shy about hygiene conversations.

A healthier Nigeria begins with simple daily habits.

๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿพโ€โš•๏ธ My People, Make We Talk Small About Stress and Body Health

Good evening my dear brothers and sisters. Na me, Dr. Now โ€” Chukwudi Anozie. For more than 30 years, I don waka Nigeria from small village for Igala land go reach Lagos and Kano, treating people. Today, make we talk something wey dey worry plenty of us silently โ€” stress.

๐Ÿ˜” Stress dey show for body in different ways:

Headache wey no dey gree go.

Fast heartbeat like drum.

Poor sleep, too much thinking.

Even stomach wahala, like running belle or constipation.

For Igbo we dey say: โ€œUdo ka ndแปฅโ€ โ€” peace pass life itself. If your mind no rest, body go soon complain.

๐Ÿ’ก Wetin you fit do?

Rest well โ€” even short nap dey help.

Drink water, not only Coke and beer.

Small exercise like walking fit clear your head.

Share your worries with person you trust. Yoruba talk say: โ€œEniyan laso miโ€ โ€” people be our true cloth, na them cover us.

If stress still too much, abeg see professional. No shame dey for that. ๐Ÿ’ช

Remember my people, โ€œRuwa na lafiya, komai ya fi saukiโ€ โ€” with water and health, everything dey easier.

๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿพโ€โš•๏ธ My People, Make We Talk Small About Infections Wey Still Trouble Nigeria

Good evening, my dear brothers and sisters. Na me, Dr. Now โ€“ Chukwudi Anozie. I don waka this our Nigeria โ€” from small village for Igala land to big cities like Lagos and Kano โ€” over 30 years now. I don see how infectious diseases dey worry families, young and old. Today, I wan explain am for simple way, so we go fit protect ourselves.

๐ŸฆŸ 1. Malaria
This one na our number one enemy. Nigeria dey carry plenty malaria cases pass any other country.

Na mosquito bite dey spread am.

Prevention no hard: Sleep under mosquito net, clear dirty water for around house, and no delay to treat fever.
๐Ÿ‘‰ For Yoruba, dem dey talk say โ€œti a ba ri ikoko idana, ka boju wo adiroโ€ โ€” if you see smoke, look for the fire. No ignore small fever, e fit be malaria.

โค๏ธ 2. HIV/AIDS
HIV don reduce small, but Nigeria still carry heavy load.

Spread: Unprotected s*x, sharing sharp objects, or from mama to pikin during birth.

Protect yourself: Use condom, do regular test, and if you get HIV, take your medicine steady.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Hausa proverb say: โ€œRiga kafi maganiโ€ โ€” prevention better pass cure.

๐Ÿ˜ท 3. Tuberculosis (TB)

If cough dey hold you more than 2 weeks, abeg check am.

TB dey spread for air when person wey get am cough or sneeze.

Good news: TB fit cure if you take the full treatment.
๐Ÿ‘‰ For Igbo we dey say: โ€œOnye ajuru aju anaghi aju onwe yaโ€ โ€” even if people neglect you, donโ€™t neglect yourself. Go test, no hide.

โš ๏ธ 4. Lassa Fever & Viral Fevers

Every year, outbreaks dey happen for some states.

Rat urine or food contamination dey cause am.

Prevention: Cover food, keep environment clean, and handle sick people carefully.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Pidgin wisdom: โ€œBetter soup, na money kill amโ€ โ€” good health no cheap, but prevention dey cheaper pass hospital bill.

๐Ÿšฐ 5. Cholera & Diarrhea

Dirty water and poor sanitation dey cause am.

E dey kill fast through dehydration.

Prevention: Drink clean water, wash hands well, and seek care quick if diarrhea start.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Igala proverb say: โ€œOjo kโ€™ene le, anwu kโ€™ene leโ€ โ€” what destroys one person can destroy all. Safe water dey protect whole community.

๐Ÿ’ก My Advice:
Diseases no dey choose tribe or religion. But we get power to reduce am with cleanliness, early treatment, and looking out for one another.

My dear, remember: โ€œIf pikin wash hand, e fit chop with eldersโ€ โ€” progress dey for who take care of himself. ๐Ÿ’ช

# A Message from Dr. Now (Chukwudi Anozie): Mental Health Truth for All Nigerians ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’š

*Good day, my people. Dr. Now here. I don write this message because e heavy my heart say too many of our brothers and sisters dey suffer quietly. Make I talk am straight โ€” no long grammar.*

---

# # The Truth We Must Face ๐Ÿ˜”

My people, after 30 years treating patients from Sokoto to Calabar, from village to city, I don see wetin mental sickness dey do our families. The thing pain me well well.

**Listen:** 4 out of every 10 Nigerians get mental health problems. Yes, you hear am correct. That means for your family of 10 people, 4 of them fit dey struggle inside their mind quietly.

But we dey treat am like say na curse or say person weak. **This na lie from pit of hell.**

# # Why We Dey Hide Am? ๐Ÿค”

# # # "Na Juju or Curse"
My Igbo people say *"Onye mara ife o mere ka chi ya jiri hap ya"* โ€” the person knows what they did that made their god abandon them. **But this no be true for mental sickness.** Depression, anxiety, trauma โ€” these things fit happen to pastor, imam, traditional ruler, student, anybody. E no be spiritual attack every time.

# # # "People Go Say You Mad"
Ah! This one pain me pass. Because person dey feel sad for weeks or months, suddenly e become *"onye ala"* (mad person)? **God forbid.** If your pressure high, you go hospital. If your mind sick, you suppose do same thing.

# # # "We No Sabi Am"
True talk โ€” many of us no really understand mental health. We think say if you strong spiritually or you get money, mental sickness no fit touch you. **Wrong thinking.**

# # What Mental Sickness Really Look Like ๐Ÿ’ญ

My dear people, make I explain am simple:

- **Person no dey sleep well for weeks** (not just one night wahala)
- **E dey withdraw from family and friends**
- **Small small thing dey make am vex or cry**
- **E no fit concentrate for work or school**
- **E dey think say life no get meaning**
- **Sometimes e fit dey hear voices or see things wey no dey there**

**If you see these signs for yourself or person wey you love, no ignore am.**

Na sickness be that, just like malaria or diabetes. And thank God, treatment dey available.

# # The Heavy Cost ๐Ÿ˜ข

My people, when we no address mental health:

- **8 out of 10 people wey need help no dey get am**
- Our children dey drop out of school because of depression
- Marriages dey scatter because we no understand say partner dey sick mentally
- Young people dey use drugs and alcohol to manage their pain
- Some people dey even kill themselves

**This thing must stop.** As Yoruba people dey say, *"Bi a ba n gun igi ni a ti n ri oke"* โ€” it's by climbing a tree that one sees the hill. We must start somewhere.

# # What I Want Make You Know ๐Ÿ’ช

# # # Mental Health Na Real Health
Just like your heart, your liver, your kidney โ€” your mind fit sick too. And just like other sickness, treatment dey work when person seek help early.

# # # You No Be Weak Person
If you dey struggle mentally, you strong pass many people. To wake up every day when your mind dey fight you? **That na warrior spirit.** Make nobody tell you say you weak.

# # # Professional Help Dey Work
We get good psychiatrists and counselors for Nigeria. Therapy and medicine dey help people get better. I don see am with my own eyes many times.

# # My Advice for You ๐Ÿ™

# # # Learn Small Small
Read about mental health. Understand the difference between normal sadness and depression. Know when to worry and when to seek help.

# # # Create Safe Space
For your family, your church, your mosque, your office โ€” make e be place where person fit talk about their mental struggles without shame.

# # # Show Love, No Judgement
When person tell you say dem dey struggle mentally, no preach for am first. **Listen.** Show love. Help am find professional help.

# # # Take Care of Your Own Mind
Practice gratitude. Pray or meditate. Exercise small small. Sleep well. Talk to people you trust. **Your mental health important too.**

# # Special Message for Our Youth ๐Ÿ’›

My young people, I know say pressure plenty for this Nigeria. School stress, job wahala, family expectations, social media pressure โ€” everything dey add up.

**Make I tell you:** E no dey shameful to ask for help. Even the strongest people need support sometimes. As we dey say for Hausa, *"Gajeren zance ya fi doguwar faษ—a"* โ€” a short conversation is better than a long quarrel. **Talk to somebody you trust.**

# # For Our Parents and Elders ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿ‘ต

My people, times don change. Mental health no be oyinbo people sickness. E dey affect our own children too.

When your child tell you say e dey sad or anxious, no dismiss am. **Listen well well.** Sometimes, your understanding and support na the first medicine the person need.

# # Final Words ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

My dear Nigerians, as our people dey say, *"Onye aghana nwanne ya"* โ€” no one should abandon their brother. Mental health na all of us concern.

We fit build one Nigeria where:
- **Nobody dey suffer in silence**
- **Seeking help no dey shameful**
- **Every family understand mental wellness**
- **Our communities support those wey dey struggle**

Remember: **Mental health na health. Your mind matter. You matter.**

If you or person you know need help, find counselor or psychiatrist for your area. Start with your local health center. Dem fit guide you to right place.

**Healing dey possible. Hope dey. Better days ahead.** ๐ŸŒ…
