Charles Spurgeon wrote in one of his books, "Things are precious, often because of their relationship. The most precious thing a mother has is her dear babe. We all love those who are near to us by the ties of nature. Precious, therefore, in the sight of the Lord are His saints, because they are born in His household, by regeneration made to be His sons and daughters."

John, in today's passage, started by revealing the depth of the love God has for believers. The love is so deep that He called us His children. God was willing to associate with us and make us a part of His family, not because we deserved it but because He chose us. John emphasised that God's children must produce righteousness because God is righteous. Anyone who continues to sin does not belong to God but to the devil because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. It is, therefore, important for us as God's children to live in a way that projects God's nature of righteousness.

We must constantly purify ourselves so we can look more like our Father. Be sure that nothing sinful is found in you as a child of God so that God can be proud of you.
