BREAKING: 11 DAYS TO TAX REFORM — WILL BANK ACCOUNTS BE BLOCKED IF YOU DON’T HAVE TIN? 🇳🇬📅
With Nigeria’s new Tax Act (NTA 2025) set to take effect from January 1, 2026, many Nigerians are worried that their bank accounts might be blocked if they don’t have a Tax Identification Number (TIN) — but here’s the real deal 👇
📌 KEY FACTS YOU MUST KNOW:
✔️ Your bank account won’t be blocked just because you don’t have a TIN by Jan 1 — banks will still allow access.
✔️ But to open a new bank account after Jan 1, 2026, you will need a TIN.
✔️ Transfers, deposits, withdrawals are NOT new taxes — only income (like salary or business profit) is taxed.
✔️ Students and people with no taxable income won’t pay tax even under the new law.
📊 The tax changes are meant to make the system fairer — but they’ve sparked confusion and fear online, especially over bank access and TIN rules. Experts say linking your TIN or National ID (NIN) to your bank helps build a better database, not automatically tax your money.
👉 Bottom line:
You won’t lose your account if you don’t have a TIN by January 1 — but to open or maintain full banking services, getting a TIN before then is strongly recommended.
