Researchers have introduced an energy-efficient architectural innovation called the NorthPole, designed to blend brain-inspired computing with semiconductor technology.

This innovation integrates computing and memory on a single chip, addressing the long-standing challenge of moving large amounts of data between compute and memory in AI systems.

With 22 billion transistors and 256 cores in an 800-millimeter square area, the NorthPole achieves higher performance and energy efficiency compared to other architectures.

It offers 25 times higher energy efficiency, five times higher space efficiency, and significantly reduced latency compared to graphics processing units (GPUs), presenting the potential for large interconnected networks of NorthPole chips.

This academy will serve as an incub­a­tion centre where aspir­ing minds are nur­tured, and prac­tical skills are honed.
