π‘οΈ DAY 2: CYBERSECURITY CAREER ROADMAP
Cybersecurity is much broader than hacking. It offers career opportunities in security operations, cloud security, pe*******on testing, incident response, digital forensics, governance and compliance, application security, DevSecOps and security architecture.
However, building a successful cybersecurity career requires more than collecting certifications. You need a clear and practical roadmap.
Here is a strong path to follow:
1οΈβ£ Build your IT foundationsβnetworking, operating systems, cloud computing and basic scripting.
2οΈβ£ Learn cybersecurity fundamentalsβthreats, vulnerabilities, identity management, encryption and risk.
3οΈβ£ Develop practical skills using authorised laboratories and security tools.
4οΈβ£ Choose a specialisation that matches your interests and strengths.
5οΈβ£ Build a portfolio that demonstrates what you can do.
6οΈβ£ Earn certifications that support your chosen career path.
7οΈβ£ Gain experience, deepen your expertise and progress towards leadership.
Your first role may be in IT support, network support or as a junior security analyst. With consistent learning and practical experience, you can progress to Security Engineer, SOC Analyst, Consultant, Architect, Manager or CISO.
Remember: certifications may help you secure an opportunity, but your skills, portfolio and ability to solve problems will sustain your career.
