π° Industry Watch: How businesses are really using AI in 2026
AI adoption is growing fast, but adoption alone doesn't guarantee results. Here's what this week's research shows:
1οΈβ£ Nigeria is one of Africa's leading AI hubs. The World Bank found that 44% of surveyed firms in Nigeria and Kenya already use AI, compared with 61% in the United States. Most of them, however, still use basic tools rather than building AI into their operations.
2οΈβ£ Data quality is the biggest barrier. In a Goodfirms survey of 343 business leaders, 83% said they run AI across multiple functions or the whole organisation. Poor data quality was the top obstacle, and 79% said human sign-off is essential for high-stakes AI decisions.
3οΈβ£ Protect sensitive data. NITDA advises organisations not to enter personal, financial, or company information into unfamiliar online services or public AI tools, and to watch for AI voice cloning and deepfake impersonation.
The Digitalbes view: AI works best on clean data, connected systems, and clear rules. Before adding more AI tools, make sure your customer data, operations, and security are in order.
