Emmanuel thought he had the best security money could buy.
Six strands of barbed wire ran the full length of his compound wall in Magodo. He had checked every post himself. He slept well because of it. Then one Tuesday morning he woke up to an unusual compound. His generator was gone. His car battery. The men had come in the night, bent three strands of wire flat with a plank of wood, and walked right in.
The wire did not ring. It did not fight back. It just bent.
Barbed wire is a physical barrier. Electric fencing is an active system. You cannot bend an electric fence flat and step over it.
The moment any line is touched, the energiser detects a drop in voltage across the fence circuit and triggers the alarm.
The system responds before the intruder finishes climbing. You cannot cut through it.
Cutting a strand breaks the circuit. That break is the alarm. You cannot remove the fence without announcing yourself first. You cannot insulate around it either. Placing a rubber mat or wood across the wires still allows enough ground contact for the circuit to register the fault.
There is no quiet entry.
So why do people say electric fencing does not work?
Because of bad installation. Not bad technology.
The same electric fencing technology secures data centres, corporate buildings, embassies, prisons, and military perimeters across the world. It works everywhere it is installed correctly.
In Nigeria, the problem has been some installers who use the wrong energiser for the perimeter length, skip earth stakes, or leave wires loose.
A fence with any of these faults becomes unreliable. It trips when the wind blows. It misses when it should alarm.
The customer loses confidence and the installer moves on to the next job. That failure belongs to the installer. Not to electric fencing.
At Eadyn Technologies Ltd, we size the energiser to your perimeter before we quote. We drive earth stakes correctly. We test output at multiple points before we hand the system to you.
You also get an indicator light on the energiser so you can confirm the fence is live yourself, without touching it.
If someone told you electric fencing does not work, ask them one question: who installed theirs?
