INCLUSIVE RECRUITMENT: NO ONE LEFT BEHIND
The ongoing Basic Teachers Recruitment Exercise in the State has demonstrated an important principle of good governance: every citizen deserves an opportunity to participate, regardless of physical disability.
Today, persons with disabilities, including deaf and blind candidates, participated in the ongoing Computer-Based Test (CBT) examination as part of the recruitment exercise. Special arrangements were made to enable them to take the examination in a manner that accommodates their needs and allows them to demonstrate their abilities.
This is a significant and commendable step towards building a more inclusive, equitable and people-centred public service.
Under the leadership of His Excellency, Dauda Lawal, the deliberate inclusion of persons with disabilities in this recruitment exercise sends a powerful message: no citizen should be left behind when opportunities are created by government.
The enthusiasm, confidence and determination displayed by these candidates were particularly inspiring. Their participation has also reminded us that disability does not mean inability. With the right opportunity and support, persons with disabilities can demonstrate remarkable talents, competence and capacity.
We commend the Recruitment Committee for recognizing the importance of inclusion and for putting the necessary arrangements in place to ensure that persons with disabilities could participate meaningfully in the exercise.
We also acknowledge the role of Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA) in supporting the technology-driven recruitment process and contributing to an examination environment where technology serves as a tool for accessibility, transparency and equal participation.
This is more than a recruitment exercise. It is a demonstration of inclusive governance and a reminder that government opportunities should be accessible to all citizens.
We commend the State Government for this laudable initiative and encourage continued efforts towards ensuring that persons with disabilities are fully included in education, employment, digital services and other government programmes.
Inclusion is progress.
Equal opportunity is good governance.
No one should be left behind.
