The GSDBA Harmonisation Breeding Program

Introduction
GSDBA Harmonisation breeding program for German Shepherd Dogs was established by the World Union for the Associations of German Shepherd Dogs (WUSV). The program emphasises the importance of maintaining the breed's physical and behavioural standards, health, and working abilities.

Foundation
The systematic breeding of German Shepherd Dogs began in 1899 with the foundation of the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV) e.V.

The Breed Standard
The breed standard is defined by the founding association and registered with the FCI under standard number 166.

Objectives
The WUSV aims to breed healthy, well-socialised, highly performing, and resilient working and service German Shepherd Dogs in line with the philosophy of the breed's founding father, Capt. Max von Stephanitz.

Breeding Criteria
The breeding program focuses on five quality criteria:
1. Health
2. Character
3. Verification of Parentage
4. Performance in Trial
5. Exterior (Standard)

Breed Shows
Types of Shows
1. Club Breed Shows
2. National Winner Shows
3. Max-von-Stephanitz Memorial Show
4. Others.

Judging Criteria
Dogs are judged based on
1. Class,
2. Age,
3. Working abilities,
4. Conformation (adherence to breed standards).

Rankings
Dogs are ranked based on criteria like
1. Health
2. Character
3. Conformation (adherence to breed standards).

Breeding Permission and Regulations
Breeding Levels are based on various qualifications and examinations.
1. Basic tier model
2. Advanced tier model
3. Premium tier model

Exclusion Criteria:
Dogs with specific deficiencies are excluded from breeding.
i.e.
1. Weak Character
2. Health Issues
3. Anatomical Abnormalities

Frequency of Breeding
Limitations are placed on the number of litters a female can have and the number of mating services for stud dogs.

Disease Screening
Hip Dysplasia (HD) and Elbow Dysplasia (ED) screening procedures are outlined with criteria.

Final Clauses
The regulation was approved on September 9th, 2019, and became effective on January 1st, 2020.

Transitional Period
Member clubs were given a transitional period of five years until January 1st, 2025, to comply with the new regulations.

Sanctions
Violations are sanctioned by individual members and are binding for all WUSV member clubs.

This breeding program aims to maintain the integrity, health, and working abilities of the German Shepherd Dog breed, with stringent criteria and regulations to ensure responsible breeding practices.
