OBTAIN AND PROCESS YOUR JAMB CHANGE OF COURSE @ KUZOL BIZ. CENTRE.
Reasons why you may want to change your Course or Institution

Case 1A. Due to Low UTME score:
After the release of Jamb results, the next thing to face is post-UTME and admissions. Now take for instance that someone applied for a federal university who will probably fix a cut-off mark of 200 and above; if such candidate scored less than 200, it simply means he/she has lost the admission. In this case the change of institution to a state-owned/private University becomes necessary. State universities generally fix cut-off marks below 200.

Case 1B. Due to Low UTME score:
Just like case 1A above, this happens when a candidate chose a very competitive course like Law, Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, Engineering, etc. Several courses have greater number of applicants than others and such courses invariably attract very high cut-off marks. To avoid being left aside a candidate is advised to go for change of course within the same institution/faculty.

Case 4. Other causes
These includes several factors ranging from finance, change in Geographical locations, Parent's suggestions, Fear of Tribal differences, etc. Such cases treated under this heading result to change of institution.
IT WILL ONLY LAST FOR 2 WEEKS

NGO Condemns JAMB Over Sales of Result Checking Scratch Card:

The People’s Community Development Initiative, PCODI has called on President Goodluck Jonathan and the supervising Minister of Education, Barr Nyesom Wike to order JAMB to desist from asking students to buy scratch cards for checking of results.

In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP, and signed by the president, Don Anthony Hamattan, the organisation stated that “Asking students to buy scratch cards in order to be able to see their JAMB results is absolutely uncalled for, barbaric, and a crime against humanity.”

It stated that JAMB as a parastatal under the ministry of education has an obligation to publish the results of students who have paid and sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

In expressing its disgust and anger towards the situation, the statement said “Corruption and government extortion on the poor has grown to its highest level in Nigeria and I believe the Nigerian Immigration recruitment is still fresh in our memories. Its time government call its ministers and ministerial staffers to order so as to curb this continuous evil trend.”

“Tertiary education should be a priority for all Nigerian children now that we are having surplus in oil sales and with an economy growing at nearly 8% according to government recently published statistics. With this type of very buoyant and powerful economy or even with less, there is just no part of the world where students are meant to buy scratch cards to see their results.”

“We must stop creating unnecessary problems for Nigerians in the name of governance and bureaucracy. How many scratch cards did those in government buy during their time? Those introducing stiffer and unnecessary measures for Nigerians and their children are enemies of the public.

JAMB UTME Performance Keeps Nosediving.
In 2011, 2,892 candidates scored above 300 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME. In a sad turn of events, the performance has nosedived drastically since then; only three candidates scored 300 and above in 2012 with the number increasing slightly to 10 in 2013.

Although, the Computer-Based Test, CBT is still ongoing, the recently released results of candidates who wrote the Paper Pencil Test, PPT and a percentage of those who wrote the CBT, is worrisome.
Compared to the 33,753 candidates who scored above 250 marks in 2013 based on available data, only 47 scored above 250 this year.

In 2012, there were 72, 243 of such students. In the light of these alarming figures, one question begs to be answered: Who is responsible for this mass failure? Is the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, the body responsible for conducting the UTME? Is it the failing education system? Lazy students? Non-committed teachers? Vanguard Learning spoke to the different stakeholders, and they all had different views about the situation.

A candidate in this year’s UTME who did not want her name in print, was not too happy when she checked her UTME results. One of the 115, 456 candidates who scored between 160-169 marks in the last exams, she said: “I don’t know what happened. I studied hard and did my best during the examinations. I make sure I didn’t cheat, but in spite of all that, my result still came out like this.”

Mr. Mark Okoh, the Principal of Caro College in Lagos, told our reporters in a phone interview that only JAMB can truly answer the questions as to why students failed.

“JAMB is the umpire in this situation,” he said “it is JAMB that sets the questions and marks the scripts. In conducting an examination, there are rules to be followed. If the candidates follow these rules, then there shouldn’t be much of a problem. But if students are not aware of the rules they are being judged by, then, that is not fair conduct of examinations. For example, The West African Examination Council, WAEC, gives students an idea of what to expect from the examination, but JAMB doesn’t do that. No wonder students are confused.”

The JAMB boss, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, however, refuted claims that JAMB is not clear on its criteria for judging students’ performance. “We are professionals,” he said, “we know what we are doing and we have always been clear about it. It is just that a lot of times, candidates do not listen. They rely on stuff they find on the internet.

This year, because we wanted to promote reading culture in the country, we prescribed two books for all the students to read. But a lot of them did not touch it. How can they pass? Fifty questions came from those books alone. Instead they depended on the internet to give them fake information, and imputed such information when they came into the examination hall.

All is not lost, and we cannot conclude yet; there are still quite a number of candidates who have not yet done the CBT. When they do, we will know for sure, and make plans from there.”

The National Coordinator of the Education Rights Campaign, ERC, Mr. Hassan Soweto, however said that the Federal Government is to blame. In a statement to Vanguard Learning, he said: “This year’s UTME has again exposed the rot in Nigeria’s public education sector. From the breakdown of the result, out of 1,015,504 candidates that sat for the exams, only about 108,488 candidates scored between 200 and 249 points. This is a dismal performance. But the candidates are not to be blamed. (Vanguard)

Parents Plead with FG, ASUP to Resolve Strike:

Parents in Nsukka have pleaded with the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) to resolve their misunderstanding for the students to return to school.

They said in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the protracted strike had left the students idle and was not a good development.

Mr Paul Ugwuanyi, a secondary school principal, said he was concerned as a parent, saying that the government and the union should consider the interest of the student whose academic future was hanging in the balance.

“I plead that both the government and ASUP make sacrifices by shifting grounds to end the strike,’’ he said.

Mrs Vivian Aleke, a civil servant, said the government should meet the demands of ASUP, noting that the strike might lure some students into crime or acts of immorality.

“As a parent, I am not happy that my son has been at home for eight months, not because I did not pay his school fees but because of a misunderstanding between the government and ASUP.

“The government and ASUP should remember that these students are future leaders of this country and without education they cannot compete favourably with their counterparts from other countries.

“I plead with the government to do everything within its power to ensure that the strike ends soon so that the students will return to classes,’’ she said.

Mr Bethel Ugwuoke, a lawyer, said the developed countries of the world achieved greatness because they paid more attention to the education sector.

“We should know that the growth of other sectors of the economy depends on education.

‘Some polytechnic students who should have graduated by now are still at home because of the strike; it does not speak well of this country’s education,’’ Ugwuoke said.

He pleaded with the government and the union to see reason to end the strike to enable students to go back to school.

ASUP embarked on the indefinite strike in September 2013 over the non-release of the white paper on the Visitation Panel to Federal Polytechnics and the non-commencement of their needs assessments. (NAN)

NAPS begs Jonathan to Intervene in ASUP’s Strike
The Federal Government has been urged to resolve its differences with the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and end the seven-month-old strike by the lecturers.

The call was made on Thursday by the President of the Students’ Union Government of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi Malam Abubakar Bako.

Bako told the News Agency of Nigeria that the lingering strike by the lecturers was having a toll on the students hence the need to end it and prevent idle polytechnic students from taking to crime.

He said that the strike, if not resolved, could force students into social vices due to idleness and frustration.

“The continued face-off between our striking lecturers and the federal government is becoming worrisome with no call-off date in sight.

“We are appealing to the warring parties to have sympathy on us, settle their differences and allow us to go back to school and continue with our studies,” he said.

Bako said that a two-year diploma programme now runs between three and four years due to incessant strikes.

He said that the ongoing strike had denied eligible students from participating in the compulsory National Youths Service Corps scheme.

He said that the students were in support of ASUP’s call for a review of the Polytechnic Act to remove the disparity between Higher National Diploma Certificate and University degree.

“We are also in support of the union’s struggle for the establishment of a National Polytechnic Commission and the need to improve funding for education in the country,” he said.

The SUG president appealed to the federal government to implement the 2009 agreement it entered with ASUP for the development of the education system in the country.

He, therefore, urged President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene in the face-off as he did with leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

His intervention, Bako said, would save the country’s technical education system from total collapse.
