Since my talk at the Google Developer Group (GDG) DevFest Birnin Kebbi a couple of weeks ago, which focused on the fascinating and often overlooked aspect of Cybersecurity known as Social Engineering, I've observed an alarming increase in the number of successful Social Engineering attacks.
This begs the question: are we doing enough to protect ourselves, our families, friends, and employees within our organizations?
What is Social Engineering?
Ever feel like someone online is a little too friendly? Or get nervous when a call claiming to be from your bank comes out of the blue?
Welcome to the world of social engineering, where attackers use clever tricks to manipulate us into revealing our secrets. Think passwords and bank details! They might act friendly, create a sense of urgency, or play on your emotions - all to get you to trust them with information you'd never share with a stranger.
In the coming weeks, I'll be diving deep into the different techniques these attackers use on social media, so you can stay informed and protected.
Understanding social engineering is crucial for both individuals and organizations to enhance their defenses. It's not just about technological safeguards; it's also about recognizing and mitigating the human element in cybersecurity threats.
We will learn how to identify suspicious requests, protect your information, and avoid falling victim to these sneaky tactics.
Please share this post with your friends and family: the more people who know about social engineering, the safer we all are online!
