THE CHILD YOU RAISE TODAY MAY BECOME THE ADULT YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT TOMORROW
The Bible says:
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6
Sometimes, we read this verse only from the perspective of religion, but there is a profound wisdom hidden in it.
Children do not only inherit names, properties and physical features. They can also inherit mindsets, habits, attitudes and patterns of decision-making.
If a child grows up watching poor financial decisions, irresponsibility, excuses, indiscipline and a constant acceptance of limitation, those things can eventually become normal to that child.
Then we grow up and ask:
“Why does this person keep making the same terrible decisions?”
Perhaps the question should have been:
“What was this person taught to consider normal?”
Poverty is not a character trait, and being born poor does not mean a person must die poor. Millions have broken out of poverty.
But poverty can become a cycle when the mindset that sustains it is successfully transferred from one generation to another.
That is why parenting is bigger than feeding a child, paying school fees and providing shelter.
You are programming a human being.
Teach your children how to think.
Teach them discipline.
Teach them delayed gratification.
Teach them the value of work.
Teach them financial intelligence.
Teach them how to create value.
Teach them how to solve problems.
Teach them that education is not merely about certificates but about capacity.
Teach them that failure is not an identity.
And most importantly, let them see you practise what you teach.
Because sometimes, the greatest inheritance you can leave a child is not money.
It is a mind capable of creating money, solving problems and making wise decisions.
Raise children who will not spend their entire lives trying to recover from what their parents failed to teach them.
Proverbs 22:6 was not merely talking about raising children. It was revealing the power of conditioning a generation.
Raise wisely.
