Missing by Just 0.5 mm — Would Your Assembly Process Catch It?
At Preston, we help customers look beyond just completing the pressing process. The real question is: can the process also verify that the assembly is correct?
In this simulation, we placed a 0.5 mm spacer between two compressible hard-rubber parts and repeated the same pressing process with the spacer removed.
Using the SCHMIDT® ElectricPress EP343 with force and displacement monitoring, the system was able to identify the difference and detect the missing 0.5 mm spacer during the pressing cycle.
This demonstrates how a pressing process can do more than apply force. With the right monitoring approach, it can also provide an additional layer of in-process quality verification.
At Preston, we work with customers to evaluate their actual assembly process, determine the required pressing force, and explore how process monitoring can help improve quality control.
