Malaysian Software Testing Board (MSTB) is a national body representing the industry interests in promoting Software Quality Assurance (SQA) and software testing as core competencies in the development of IT-dependent quality products and

services. As a member of the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB), MSTB regulates the accreditation and certification processes for Malaysia. The certification programs offered by ISTQB syllabus are built upon the best practices and collective testing knowledge contributed by the testing practitioners worldwide. Certifications offered by MSTB are Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) and Certified Tester Advanced Level (CTAL) that are recognised in all member countries of ISTQB. MSTB also offers the Certified Professional in Requirements Engineering (CPRE) through its partnership with the International Requirements Engineering Board (IREB), that provides the core syllabi and guidelines for accreditation and examination in requirements engineering. MSTB is also a member of the Asian Software Testing Alliance (ASTA), a regional alliance comprised of member countries of ISTQB. The regional headquarters for ASTA is based in Malaysia with MSTB functioning as its secretariat.

The TMMi Foundation has just released TMMi v2.0, the biggest update to the global test maturity model in years. The headline change? Business value, Agile, DevOps and AI are now built into the model itself.

Assessments on the older Release 1.3 stay valid until August 2027, so there's room to plan. More guidance for Malaysian teams coming soon.

Ask a room of final-year CS students to name a tech career, and “developer” gets said a hundred times before anyone says “tester.”

That gap is exactly why we spent two days at MMU Cyberjaya. On 9 and 10 June, MSTB brought a software quality assurance career talk to students at MMU’s Faculty of Computing. Puan Zuliha shared the pathways into testing, the skills industry is hiring for, and the certifications that open doors.

You cannot choose a path you cannot see. For a lot of these students, that was the shift, testing went from invisible to a direction they could actually take.

What happens when you let the audience set the agenda?

At SOFTECAsia 2025, we opened an online form for participants to submit questions to our keynote panel — and the response was overwhelming. Prof Jasbir Singh chaired the session, prioritising questions by popular vote so the room itself decided what mattered most. What emerged was one of the sharpest exchanges on AI and testing we've captured on camera.

The panel didn't shy away from the uncomfortable questions. Can generative AI actually erode a tester's ability to think critically? If LLMs hallucinate under large context windows, who owns the sanity check — the tool or the human? And as AI-assisted coding accelerates delivery speed, are we about to see the developer-to-QA ratio flip entirely?

Some highlights worth your time:
The case for "prompt debt" replacing traditional test automation maintenance. Why forcing AI into a mature framework that already works is a solution looking for a problem. The prediction that within a decade, intelligent agents will map risk areas in your IDE before code even compiles. And a forceful reminder that emotional intelligence and face-to-face collaboration remain irreplaceable — no matter how sophisticated the tooling gets.
