Prey and Jotun will be available on Epic Games Store for free next week, letting you board the Talos 1 space station to fend off sludge-creatures or delve into a hand-drawn tapestry of Norse monsters.

Prey is often argued to be Arkane's most slept-on game, a complete reboot of the original that mixes the level design approach from Arx Fatalis with modern immersive sim elements to create a blend of horror and exploration that embraces player choice - all in space. Oh, and it has Benedict Wong. Sorcerer Supreme Benedict Wong. It's up for grabs on Xbox Game Pass too, but you don't even need a subscription to play it now.

One of Arkane's most slept-on games is up for grabs next week.

Video games have come a long way since those first playful pixels back in October 1958 when Physicist William Higinbotham invented the first video game. It was a simple tennis game called Pong. Nowadays, video games aim to immerse a player into the virtual world that looks so real, that those first pixels would be proud. Back in the 80s and 90s when the advent of video games started to increase in momentum, video game stores were one of the most frequented places in malls and towns. They were everywhere and competition between stores was fierce. A lot of these stores glitched out of existence or were gobbled up by the bigger competition.

Microsoft is shaking up the world of PC gaming today with a big cut to the amount of revenue it takes from games on Windows. The software giant is reducing its cut from 30 percent to just 12 percent from August 1st, in a clear bid to compete with Steam and entice developers and studios to bring more PC games to its Microsoft Store.

“Game developers are at the heart of bringing great games to our players, and we want them to find success on our platforms,” says Matt B***y, head of Xbox Game Studios at Microsoft. “A clear, no-strings-attached revenue share means developers can bring more games to more players and find greater commercial success from doing so.”

Microsoft is trying to entice developers to list more games in its store.
