In case you missed it, this afternoon, the level of USD/MYR reached a 26-year high in the foreign exchange market.

To put things into perspective, at 4.7975, this is the worst reading of the local currency against the US dollar since the Asian financial crisis meltdown in January 1998.

And past financial crises have shown that adverse movements in ringgit could wreak havoc to any organization's bottom line.

On that note, we at Triaset would like to remind again all Treasurers to ensure your foreign currency exposure is kept water tight all the time.
When the foreign exchange market is so volatile, it is no longer the question of whether the rate you enter for hedging is good or otherwise.

To us, what's more important now is to stay fully hedged at any time especially when ringgit is in an unchartered territory.

That said, please talk to your bank's Treasury team to get the latest foreign exchange updates. And more importantly, following the recent ringgit weaknesses, you need to be extra vigilant.

In saying that, as a local software house that has been championing Treasury Management Systems for more than two decades, Triaset strongly recommends all Treasurers to fully hedge their organization's foreign exchange exposure.

And leaving your foreign exchange exposure naked is no longer a choice today.

Moreover, with the current volatility in the foreign exchange market, you should spend more time now to look at the impact of the ringgit movements to your overall business.
