On 19 October 2026, SACOFA attended the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting under the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Sarawak, as part of its commitment to staying informed on the State Government’s legislative proceedings, policy direction, and development priorities relevant to the telecommunications sector.

The attendance, led by SACOFA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jafer Sadig Abdul Lathiff, reflects SACOFA’s continued support for the Ministry’s strategic direction and Sarawak’s broader development agenda, with particular emphasis on strengthening telecommunications infrastructure, enhancing statewide connectivity, and advancing digital inclusion.

At 26, Melinda Anak Peter has found herself in an environment that challenges her to learn, adapt and grow. Originally from Kuching, Sarawak, and of Bidayuh-Kelabit heritage, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Administrative Science.

Joining SACOFA gave Melinda a different perspective on the workplace. She describes the environment as fast-paced and structured, with her onboarding leaving a positive impression.

Outside of work, Melinda has a diverse range of interests. She enjoys playing tennis, swimming and snooker, while also discovering another side of herself through emceeing. Her experience at SACOFA continues to be a journey of new experiences, building connections, and professional growth along the way.

At IDECS 2026, SACOFA’s Head of Product & Commercialisation, Ilyas Nordin, joined industry and academic leaders for the panel discussion, “From Earth to Orbit: Building the Next-Generation Connectivity Ecosystem for a Borderless Sarawak.”

The session explored how different layers of connectivity, from fibre and telecommunications infrastructure on the ground to subsea networks and satellite capacity in orbit, can work together to create a more resilient, seamless and far-reaching digital ecosystem for Sarawak.

Moderated by Ts. Hamadlan Bin Haji Hamdan, Chief Digital Officer of Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), the discussion also featured Prof. Saurabh Sinha of the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and Ganendra Selvaraj, Chief Commercial Officer of MEASAT.

Ilyas highlighted the importance of a strong terrestrial foundation through towers, fibre and high capacity network infrastructure, including SACOFA’s ongoing efforts to modernise its network to meet growing digital demands. Complemented by satellite and emerging technologies, these capabilities can help overcome Sarawak’s geographical challenges and extend reliable connectivity across the state.
