Melvin Ong, CEO of Karuna, recently participated as a panel speaker and presenter at the Global Business Impact & Strategic Partnership Gala 2026 in Penang, joining international business leaders, policy makers and investors from Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the United States 🌎

During the “New Silk Road” panel discussion, Melvin shared insights on how China, the Belt & Road Initiative, and the rise of a multipolar economy are reshaping global trade, technology, and business partnerships, with Malaysia positioned as a strategic bridge between ASEAN and global markets 🏙️⚡

He also presented Karuna’s smart city vision through his keynote, “S.M.A.R.T Smart Cities: Connecting the Dots Between Technology, Sustainability & Governance,” highlighting AI-driven operations, smart mobility, EV charging ecosystems, sustainability-linked governance, and data-driven city management

A key moment for the evening was the official MOU signing between Smart Optimal Solutions (SOS) and Karuna 🤝, marking a collaboration to export Smart City Technology to America, as well as the provision of EV charge operating systems into the United States and African markets together with Swift Bridge Technologies.

Melvin Ong, CEO of Karuna and representative of the BIMP-EAGA Business Council, recently participated in the 2026 International Sister Cities Youth Entrepreneurs Dialogue held in Kunming, Yunnan, China 🇨🇳

The programme brought together young entrepreneurs, industry leaders and international delegates to explore collaboration opportunities in AI, green energy, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing and sustainable economic development 🌱🤖

Throughout the visit, Melvin engaged in strategic dialogues, site visits and industry exchanges with various Chinese enterprises and institutions, gaining first-hand insights into China’s rapid advancements in industrial innovation, smart operations, renewable energy and technology commercialisation.

The delegation visited biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, advanced manufacturing facilities, agricultural technology and flower industries, as well as smart industrial operations centres across Yunnan 🏭🌸

As part of the International Sister Cities Young Entrepreneurs Dialogue, Melvin also exchanged perspectives with international delegates on opportunities for deeper ASEAN-China collaboration in areas such as smart cities, digital economy initiatives, AI-driven infrastructure, sustainability and cross-border entrepreneurship 🌐🤝

The visit reinforced Karuna’s commitment towards building stronger regional partnerships and exploring innovation-driven opportunities that can benefit Sarawak and the wider BIMP-EAGA region through technology, sustainability and economic cooperation 💪
