Did you know the difference between supply chain and logistics? Or maybe you think they're the same thing, and honestly, that's fair. Because they are two different things, but the confusion has been around for a long time. Fun fact: the term "supply chain" was only coined in 1982 π€― . Before that, everything was just called logistics π€ . And the misconception has stuck ever since. A Geodis study found that only 6% of companies claim to have full visibility over their supply chain.
So what does supply chain actually cover? Prof. Dr. Premkumar Rajagopal, President of Malaysia University of Science and Technology, puts it: "Supply chain is the entire function in the organization. It covers HR, it covers planning, it covers marketing, it covers IT, it covers procurement, it covers finance, everything." Logistics is just one part of it. And for HR leaders (workforce structure, outsourcing decisions, training strategy) that's supply chain thinking too.
