Did you know the difference between supply chain and logistics? Or maybe you think they're the same thing, and honestly, that's fair. Because they are two different things, but the confusion has been around for a long time. Fun fact: the term "supply chain" was only coined in 1982 🀯 . Before that, everything was just called logistics πŸ€” . And the misconception has stuck ever since. A Geodis study found that only 6% of companies claim to have full visibility over their supply chain.

So what does supply chain actually cover? Prof. Dr. Premkumar Rajagopal, President of Malaysia University of Science and Technology, puts it: "Supply chain is the entire function in the organization. It covers HR, it covers planning, it covers marketing, it covers IT, it covers procurement, it covers finance, everything." Logistics is just one part of it. And for HR leaders (workforce structure, outsourcing decisions, training strategy) that's supply chain thinking too.

Our CTO, Nabil Oudghiri, is back with 3 brioHR feature updates:

1. Salary arrears:
Approved a salary increase that should have started months ago? brioHR now calculates the underpayment automatically, including overtime and payments based on daily or hourly rates.

2. Claims balance report
Need a clearer view of employee claims? You can now see each employee’s claim limit, amount used, and remaining balance in one report, then filter or export the data as needed.

3. Subsidiaries on mobile
Managing more than one subsidiary? You can now switch between them directly in the brioHR mobile app. Submit a claim for one subsidiary, then approve a leave request for another without leaving the app.

Less manual calculation, clearer claim balances, and easier access across subsidiaries

Throwback to our withbrio podcast with Dr. Arulnageswaran Aruleswaran Aruleswaran. One of the most interesting things he shared was a way to check whether your team is actually ready for AI, and which stage they are at. Because when leaders can identify where their organisation stands, they can build a proper AI adoption strategy, instead of just chasing FOMO πŸ‘€

Prof. Dr. Premkumar Rajagopal, President of Malaysia University of Science and Technology, quotes Jim Collins' Good to Great on one concept: discipline. Specifically, 3 kinds. Discipline in people, discipline in thoughts, and discipline in action.

Some organisations have all 3. Some skip the people part and go straight to strategy. And some? Great at writing the plans, beautiful presentations, board papers done, but when it comes to ex*****on, they have no idea. This framework he adapted at MUST, a university sitting on RM22 million in losses, given one year to break even or close down 😱

In Asia, showing weakness feels like career su***de, and there are complex reasons behind it. That's what most of us were taught, and for a long time, Rejie Samuel believed it too. But Rejie had a different approach. Instead of pretending to have all the answers, he started saying "I don't know, let's figure it out together."

Because his take is that vulnerability is actually a competitive advantage for Asian leaders, the kind where you're honest about what you don't know, while still trying to solve the problem with the team.

Rejie Samuel did something that made his HR team very uncomfortable, he got rid of job descriptions entirely. So he replaced them with one question: why do you exist?

For example: the payroll team's first instinct was to rewrite their job descriptions back at him. He pushed further, until the answer connected all the way back to the company's sales, profitability, and cash flow.
