Cincai青菜 Cincai - A Socio-Cultural Design Project

A final Graphic Design graduation project from 3 students Cheong Zhi Ying, Ngew Keat Seng, Swee Pei Foong of Dasein Academy Of Art. The concept behind the project is to explore a popular Malaysian expression - 'cincai', from the aspect of helping busy citizens making simple decisions, starting at deciding what to eat. As the word 'cincai' also means green vegetables, the project installation is bu

ilt to look like a vegetable store to communicate the core spirit of the 'cincai' culture.

因為我們馬來西亞參雜的生活文化，也造就了“青菜”（福建話）這個字眼。“青菜”也造就了他們這幾位來自迖爾尚的學生為大家帶來了這一項“青菜”食物計劃。那你就不需要再有選擇食物的麻煩啦！

The Hokkien word “cincai” is widely used in Manglish and Singlish, which means “whatever”. Based on network source, it derived from a chinese word 秤採, describing an estimated deal with customers by using balance in the market. It is not 100% accurate but yet it lightens the workload and makes life simpler.

“青菜”是福建話隨便，馬虎的意思。因為我們馬來西亞參雜的文化，“青菜”這個字眼，不斷的出現在大家的生活裡，但是不是所有的人都知道它的來源。
“青菜“在馬來西亞與新加坡都普遍流行。常常我們都聽到身邊的家長，親戚，朋友，同學甚至友族朋友都會說“青菜“啦～ 根據資料調查顯示，”青菜“是福建話隨便，馬虎的意思。從網絡上的《急診教育部台語漢字》陳金虎2009年季夏對於“青菜“還有另一個解釋。”青菜“也寫作秤採。秤採的意思是採用秤子來做裁定，不會比用戥子的裁定來的細精。所以被喻為隨便或不斤斤計較的意思。
