- use white space
- less is more

- keep things simple

- use contrasting colors
- be consistent in your design
- give your text a good structure
- stay in line
- create a visual hierarchy
- adjust image and background levels for text to stand out

3. Implement the basic design principles
- balance - either symmetrical or asymmetrical
- proximity - connect the related elements
- alignment - line up the elements
