Side Income or Freelance Work? You May Need to Submit Form B

Many individuals today earn income beyond their full-time employment. This may include freelance services, consulting work, online selling, or other side businesses.

However, some taxpayers are not aware that additional income may require a different tax filing form.

A simple guideline:

Form BE
For individuals with employment income only.

Form B
For individuals who earn business income, freelance income, or side income.

Examples include:

• Freelance design or consulting services
• Online businesses such as Shopee or TikTok Shop
• Commission-based work or part-time services

For Year of Assessment 2025, the key deadlines are:

• Form BE – 30 April 2026
• Form B – 30 June 2026

Malaysia’s income tax filing season is approaching, and it is important for individuals, employers, and business owners to be aware of the key deadlines for the Year of Assessment (YA) 2025.

Submitting your tax forms on time helps ensure compliance with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) and helps you avoid late submission penalties.

Below are some of the important tax deadlines to take note of:

• Form EA – Employers must provide the annual income statement to employees before 28 February 2026.

• Form E – Employers must declare employee remuneration details to LHDN by 31 March 2026.

• Form BE – Individuals with employment income only should submit their tax return by 30 April 2026.

• Form B – Individuals with business income, freelance income, or side income should submit by 30 June 2026.

• Form M – Individuals who do not carry on business (non-resident taxpayers) must submit by 30 April 2026.

• Form MT – Individuals carrying on business (non-resident taxpayers) must submit by 30 June 2026.

• Form P – Partnerships must submit their income tax return by 30 June 2026.

• CP58 – Companies must issue commission statements to agents, dealers, or distributors by 31 March 2026.

Due to the latest update where businesses with annual revenue above RM1 million are temporarily not required to implement e-Invoice, we have decided to cancel the live webinar session.

However, to ensure everyone still receives value:
• The webinar will be changed to a pre-recorded video session (Chinese)
