When an influencer says, “I love this product,” how do we know if that opinion is truly genuine? 📲

In the current digital landscape, influence goes far beyond what appears on a screen. It shapes perceptions, informs decisions and builds trust. With that influence comes the responsibility to be transparent, authentic and accountable.

To bridge the gap and address issues surrounding influencer credibility and transparency, Content Forum hosted an Influence Lab session bringing together industry players, influencers, legal experts, educators, and civil society organisations (CSOs). The discussions were vibrant and helped surface the many issues we intend to address in the development of Guidelines for Influencers and Brand Collaborations.

We were heartened that, despite representing different parts of the ecosystem, everyone agreed on two principles: consumers deserve honest, authentic reviews that help them make informed choices, and influencers deserve to be treated as professionals, with the ethical responsibilities that come with that role.

Trust is not built through influence alone. It is earned through credibility, transparency, and genuine experience 🤝

We look forward to continuing these important conversations and working together towards a more ethical, transparent, and trusted digital ecosystem.

The Case of Too Many Burps

A radio ad for a digestive remedy…
with the sound of burping.

Not once.
Not twice.
Four times.

A listener called it “disgusting” and filed a complaint.

So…
did it cross the line?

Take a view before you swipe.

Not everything uncomfortable is a violation.
But where should the line be drawn?

🔎 Seen something that doesn’t sit right? Raise it: [https://contentforum.my/make-complaint/]

Real complaints. Real decisions. 25 years of self-regulation.

As part of TikTok’s ongoing campaign, Content Forum continues to contribute to conversations on digital literacy, online safety and the realities of parenting in today’s digital world.

✨️ At Tatler’s Most Influential Room: Training with TikTok, held at The RuMa Hotel and Residences, Kuala Lumpur, our CEO Mediha Mahmood joined a Fireside Chat alongside Ain Husniza, Gia Kon and a representative from TikTok, moderated by Emma Chong, Managing Editor of Tatler Malaysia.

Speaking both as an industry professional and a mother, Mediha highlighted that online safety today goes far beyond the old idea of “stranger danger”. Children and young people are now navigating a digital world of "strangers", with risks such as cyberbullying, scams, grooming and harmful content, often in spaces where parents may not always be present.

Her message was simple: parents do not need to know every trend or current slang. But they do need to stay curious, keep the conversation open, understand the safety tools available, and make digital literacy part of everyday parenting so children are instilled with values that transcend technology.

The discussion also brought forward practical perspectives from Ain, Gia and TikTok on empowering young people, strengthening parental involvement, and supporting safer, more informed online experiences.

The key takeaway from was clear 📣 The internet should not be approached with fear, but with awareness, guidance and better digital reflexes.

Because keeping children safe online starts long before something goes wrong.

We look forward to continued conversations in this space 🗨💬

Celebrating cultural diversity also means being mindful of how we represent it.

In a digital space where content spreads quickly and shapes perceptions, we carry the responsibility to ensure that what we share does not reduce cultures into stereotypes or misrepresentation.

Today, let’s remind ourselves to move towards creating responsible content that reflects real voices, real traditions, and real respect.

Happy World Day for Cultural Diversity to everyone! ✨
