Occasionally, products come along that represent a paradigm shift within a given category. Using 25 years worth of Shunyata Research’s documented science, experience and innovation, Gamma Series cables are poised to upend price and performance axioms within the cable industry. Shunyata Research has made critical advancements in conductor science and applied them to Gamma Series cables, elevating performance far beyond expectation. Perhaps more than any other product in Shunyata Research’s history, Gamma Series cables demand to be heard even when compared to cables two to three times the cost.

DRIVEN BY SCIENCE

Gamma signal and digital cables are made with the finest conductors available. Single-crystal, continuous cast Ohno copper is an ultra-pure conductor normally found in far more expensive cables. Ohno conductors are extruded using Shunyata Research’s exclusive PMZ (Precision Matched Impedance) process. This extrusion method tightens the tolerances of the conductor surfaces, dielectric extrusions, and the precision of the braided shield. All are held to minute tolerances. The extrusion and braiding machines must be run at one-quarter speed during the manufacturing process. Finally, all Gamma cables are conditioned for 4 days using advanced Kinetic Phase Inversion Process (KPIP v2™).

PURITY IN TONE. DYNAMIC BY NATURE.

If choosing a single word to encapsulate the sound of a Gamma Series cable system, it would be coherence. Every aspect of Gamma cable system performance simply flows with the ease and clarity of a single voice. Textural and tonal nuance is balanced perfectly against Gamma’s explosive, dynamic nature. Gamma cable systems never sound forward, bright, aggressive or edgy. However, what truly separates Gamma cables from all others, regardless of cost, is their self-effacing alacrity, timing accuracy, dynamic punch and frequency extension. Most pure-copper cables, even expensive models, may sound warm, rich, and full bodied at the expense of accurate timing, dynamics and frequency extension. Gamma cables sound very natural, but are surprisingly agile, athletic and entirely unforced with regard to expressing frequency extension, timing, weight and authority in the low octaves. Gamma cables do all of this without calling attention to themselves, allowing the purity of the sound to take center stage.

Technology

Shunyata Research uses only the highest purity of copper available for the production of its wire products. ‌‌OFE Alloy 101 or ‌‌C10100 is the highest grade of copper with a minimum 99.99% purity and a conductivity rating of 101% IACS. OFE stands for oxygen-free electrolytic and supersedes the term OFHC (oxygen-free high conductivity). ‌‌C10100 is the only grade of copper that comes with a written certification of purity. Certified by ASTM F68 ‌‌C10100.

Fluorocarbon dielectrics are usually only found in wire used in the aerospace industry, satellites and only the most expensive audiophile cabling. It has special electrical characteristics; very low dielectric absorption, high dielectric strength and exceptional heat resistance. When used in audio and power cables is reduces the perception of dynamic compression and it improves sonic low-level resolution and clarity.

Audiophile Grade Connectors

Shunyata’s audiophile-grade AC connectors are specially crafted from high-grade solid brass to accommodate large 10-gauge conductors and feature gold-plated pure copper contacts in the IEC connectors. This combination results in lower resistance and ensures a lifetime of exceptional sound.

Hermetically Sealed

Within robust polycarbonate head-shells, the connectors are hermetically sealed with an electrically inert compound that protects the contacts and wires from corrosion. The compound also ensures that the wires cannot become loose, fray, or pull out from the head-shell. This guarantees reliable performance that does not degrade over time.

STANDARD CABLE ISOLATION THEORY

Conventional cable isolation theory holds that optimal cable performance can be achieved by elevating cables from the floor in an attempt to control vibrations and manage static fields. Typical cable elevators are made from electrically insulating materials such as wood, glass, plastic or ceramics. Most of these products claim superior performance based upon the materials or methods of elevation.

The central problem with the conventional model is that elevating a cable from the floor with an electrical insulator creates a relative static charge differential between the cable and floor. Over a period of time this static differential can become enormous — sometimes exceeding tens of thousands of volts. When an electrical signal is sent through the cable, the signal can become distorted or inter-modulated by the static electrical field differential between the cable and floor. This effect is similar to sending an electrical signal through a wire that passes through a powerful magnetic field. The distortion that results is quite audible with any quality entertainment system.

STATIC FIELD UNIFICATION

The Shunyata Research Dark Field Cable Elevator is based upon a patent-pending static-field-unification principle. The elevator is constructed from expensive, multiple layers of electrically conductive foam. This allows static charges to migrate through the elevator eliminating the build up of static field differentials between the floor and cable that would otherwise create noticeable signal degradation.

EXCEPTIONAL VIBRATION MANAGEMENT

In addition to eliminating static-field differential effects, Dark Field Elevators minimize the transmission of vibrations by combining two soft layers of vibration absorbent foam with a third rigid layer that has a different resonant frequency. This not only minimizes floor-borne vibration, but also breaks up standing-wave vibrations within the elevator itself. The Dark Field Elevator’s s extremely narrow inner layer is formed into a V shape that limits the surface contact area. This minimizes the transmission of vibrational energy from the floor to the cable, while providing a stable and firm support.
