What speed do you really need?

To help solve for this there are some questions you can ask yourself. A lot of the time the sales agent is trying to upsell you to take a commission. From a recent survey about 90% of people with available internet up to 1Gbps does not need what they were sold.

The average household (NOT downloading Torrents) uses about 15Mbps in a single moment of time.
Netflix uses around 10Mbps and it is not constant, that is at 1080p. It downloads the data then it pauses and plays the data it downloaded then downloads it again, this happens every 10 seconds or so. This forms a wave of data ingress to your home. During the time it's not downloading it is using around 1-2Mbps which leaves a ton of room for more internet activity. With just 10Mbps you can play a video games, watch YouTube videos on multiple devices and stream Netflix. However if you add a few more devices that are streaming videos to this scenario your quality will fluctuate on Netflix due to the platform adapting to your bandwidth (YouTube does this also), adding more devices could affect your video calls but as a service provider they should be making your VoIP and video calls a priority over browsing, YouTube, Netflix etc....if that is true you will see no impact to your calls.

Does Bandwidth play the biggest role in the quality of experience?

NO it doesn't! Latency, Jitter and Packet loss does! Has your video calls ever skipped around, flashed ahead in time? That is due to jitter which is a measure of the time between which the data is arriving. Latency which is a measure of the time data takes to get somewhere and back can have a major impact on your video calls also, if you ever had a call where you talk but the other person doesn't hear you for a second or two and vice versa you are experiencing high latency.
Packet loss is culprit for bad video calls, when your video call is all blocky and choppy this is normally due to packet loss.

The main culprits for bad experience is not the bandwidth but the Jitter, Latency and Packet loss, if any of this is bad you will experience bad service especially if you play games.

With low bandwidth you can achieve great service, your downloads will take longer and you won't be able to stream 4 TVs at once all at 1080p but not many people do.

For an example: We did extensive testing on a 20x20Mbps and we ran 4 TVs streaming Netflix, 2 phones watching YouTube, Playing a online video game and also doing 2 Skype video calls and we didn't have a single issue, this is because of the way data is pulled down in a wave form. Don't let them over sell you!!!

In the end the average user does not need much bandwidth.
A gamer doesn't need much bandwidth.
Someone who downloads things a lot and wants the download to happen fast is someone that would want high bandwidth.

Playing an online game with 250 players in one match only used 2Mbps of upload and 0.5-2Mbps download.

Below is a graph of Netflix streaming at 1080p over a 60 Second period of time, it is the only device on the network.

RFC2549 IP over Avian Carriers with Quality of Service.
RFC (stands for Request For Comments) is a document that describes the standards, protocols, and technologies of the Internet and TCP/IP.

The Internet works because of induvial bodies following RFCs, issued by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).

A guy by the name of D. Waitzman actually created a RFC that used birds to deliver data. They used multiple species of birds, you had bigger birds that could carry more data but it had high latency and smaller birds that could carry less but at a lower latency. As you could imagine it wasn't much of a success. IPoAC has been successfully implemented, but for only nine packets of data, with a packet loss ratio of 55% (due to operator error) and a response time ranging from 3,000 seconds (50 min) to over 6,000 seconds (100 min).

Risks:
In December 2005, a Gartner report on bird flu that concluded "A pandemic wouldn't affect IT systems directly" was humorously criticized for neglecting to consider RFC 1149 and RFC 2549 in its analysis.[7]

Known risks to the protocol include:

Carriers being attacked by birds of prey.
"Unintentional encapsulation in hawks has been known to occur, with decapsulation being messy and the packets mangled."
Carriers being blown off course. RFC1149: "While broadcasting is not specified, storms can cause data loss."
The absence of viable local carriers. RFC6214: "In some locations, such as New Zealand, a significant proportion of carriers are only able to execute short hops, and only at times when the background level of photon emission is extremely low." This describes the flightless and nocturnal nature of kiwis.
Loss of availability of species, such as the extinction of the passenger pigeon.
Disease affecting the carriers. RFC6214: "There is a known risk of infection by the so-called H5N1 virus."
The network topologies supported for multicast communication are limited by the homing abilities of carriers. RFC6214: "... [carriers] prove to have no talent for multihoming, and in fact enter a routing loop whenever multihoming is attempted."

Below is a picture of pinging the destination and hyperlink to the actual RFC which will explain how to use the protocol and all the pros and cons about it.

This is an visual representation of all the cyber attacks that started because of the war between Ukraine and Russia. The cyber world was pretty quiet before this and it will be after. Russia targeted critical communications infrastructure which brought back the dead. BBC is using old TV broadcast frequencies known as short wave frequencies to broadcast the news to Ukraine for 4 hours a day. These operating frequencies can be picked up by most radios including your hand held ones.
