dojo.live A video podcast for Travel & Hospitality tech, exploring how technology transforms the industry through expert insights. Why The Dojo?

According to Wikipedia, A dojo is a Japanese term which literally means "place of the way". In the Western World, the term dojo primarily refers to a training place, usually meant for Japanese martial arts. The term can also refer to a formal training place for any of the Japanese arts ending in "do", meaning "way". Inspired by this idea, and by the perfection-seeking performance of the martial ar

Virtual cards aren’t the problem. The process is.

As Stuart Davenport shared during our GBTA conversation with Neil Fyfe, virtual cards are proven, successful, and widely adopted across much of travel. So why do hotel payments still lag?

It’s all about process consistency. Every hotel can process a virtual card, but the experience varies by property, system, and even the front desk agent.

For an industry built on seamless experiences, this variability is more than a friction point. It’s a missed opportunity for efficiency, traveler satisfaction, and financial control.

Our takeaway?

✅ Standardizing how new tech is used across the ecosystem is just as important as introducing it.

The future of expense management in travel is intelligent and it's now!

As Chris Nemeth from BILL shared with us at GBTA, AI is reshaping how payments and expenses are handled:

✅ Auto-coding transactions to the right department or cost center
✅ Seamlessly syncing with accounting software
✅ Delivering full, real-time visibility into spending

For travel leaders, this means empowering teams to focus on strategic decisions rather than manual processes.

In managed travel, friction is the default and for too long, AI was just a buzzword promising to fix it.

That’s changing.

At , we sat down with Sam Hilgendorf, CIO at Fox World Travel, to explore how Colby, their new conversational AI assistant, is bringing clarity and simplicity back to business travel.

Instead of a chatbot, Colby acts like a true assistant - one that understands policy, empowers travelers in the moment, and lifts the burden off travel managers.

🎯 Why it matters:
– Group travel is messy, especially with unprofiled travelers and fragmented payments
– Unused tickets = lost money, and too often, lost visibility
– And traditional booking tools are frustratingly hard to use

If you're serious about building a better travel experience with fewer clicks and more context, this episode is for you.

Are corporate travel workflows keeping pace with reality, or just keeping up appearances?

dojo.live sat down with Jean Belanger and Steve Harter of Cerebri AI at GBTA 2025 to talk about where the real problems, and real opportunities, lie in corporate travel today.

One powerful insight: Guest travel is the biggest unmanaged expense in many programs, and it’s falling through the cracks because non-employees don’t have access behind the firewall. But GenAI could finally make this fixable, bringing structure and control to a high-cost, high-risk category.

What else are we overlooking simply because it lives outside the "main program"?

What if AI could help airlines save millions and cut emissions at the same time?

In this dojo.live GBTA Convention 2025 episode, Samar Khan, Founder of TripAI Technologies, shares how just 1–3% in fuel optimization can lead to millions in cost savings and a ~3.14% reduction in emissions.

This isn’t hypothetical. It’s happening right now with AI-powered agentic systems, deep domain knowledge, and cloud-native infrastructure at the core.

Our takeaways?

✅ AI can’t just be smart, it has to be embedded in the right context
✅ Collaboration with the right people (pilots, not just platforms) matters
✅ Sustainability and profitability can, and should, coexist

At GBTA 2025, Akshath Dhar, Director of Business Data Analytics at Onyx CenterSource, broke down the B2B commission process and how travel agencies can get paid faster and with less friction.

For the first time, Onyx is opening access to benchmarking intelligence, giving clients visibility not only into their own commission programs, but how they stack up across regions, cities, and global peers. A true game changer for partner negotiations and pricing strategies!

He also touched on a growing trend: a shift back toward commission models and away from net rates. Why? Because with tools like OnyxInsights entering the space, smarter decisions are becoming possible at scale.

Thanks for the thoughtful insights, Akshath. Great to see how data is helping reshape distribution and transparency in corporate travel!

What does the future of corporate travel booking look like?

At GBTA Convention 2025, we caught up with Michael Farrell, Global Commercial Lead at Deem, for a quick dojo.live pop-up interview on what’s ahead for online booking tools.

Michael shared two big takeaways:

- Content scalability: Thanks to Deem’s acquisition by Travelport, the team is accelerating access to NDC and other critical content.

- Accessibility by design: Deem is the only OBT that fully meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, making the booking experience more inclusive for travelers with cognitive, visual, or hearing impairments.

We also talked about the shift toward streamlined, policy-compliant search results and reducing friction and clicks so that travelers stay online and stay compliant.

And, surprise! APIs matter just as much as AI when it comes to delivering that kind of seamless experience.

Thanks again, Mike, for such a thoughtful conversation.
