We´ve been talking about how a double 10” Line Array should be designed in 2022 for a long time now, but we just did not find a way to improve the acoustic performance of our SEQUENZA 10 System. German Magazine Production Partner wrote: "Thanks to the perfectionist design of the K&F SEQUENZA 10 in all areas, the system delivers a performance that, given the current state of the art, can without exaggeration be described as the limit of what is possible." and that led us to the conclusion to improve some details that might not be state of the art. We acoustically redesigned the front grille from scratch and we designed some new FIR Filter presets that are going to be released soon after some serious testing during the 2021 open air season with lots of major artists and very positive feedback. The Hardware Upgrade-Kit is already available and in stock, the new Presets are going to be released soon as a free download for our PLM- and D-Series Amplifiers. "Never change a running system", as the saying goes, but in the case of our CA 106 we had no choice but to develop the loudspeaker from scratch. A very high-quality inverted dome from a well-known French studio and hi-fi manufacturer worked in the high frequencies. When they decided a few years ago not to produce the tweeter in-house anymore, it was clear to us that we had to look for an alternative. In the end, it was not possible to integrate another tweeter into the existing construction and still meet the highest standards, so we took the situation as an opportunity to develop a completely new loudspeaker. The CA 106 Pro carries the DNA of its predecessor and still surpasses it in every respect. And the best thing is: It also works without a system preset on neutral power amplifiers. A real classic – developed from scratch.

At the last IAA show in Frankfurt am Main, our partner Neumann&Müller Veranstaltungstechnik showed a good example of what modern multimedia presentations must look like these days. The focus should be on content. The technology is necessary to get the message across, but must not appear itself. This is why our K&F VIDA system is extremely inconspicuous and has been perfectly integrated into the scenery. With a width of just 210 mm, even large VIDA arrays can be positioned very inconspicuously next to video walls and deliver the very best high-end sound to a large audience. In this way, the acoustic center of the content can be moved exactly to where the Content is played without having to place large, conspicuous loudspeakers in the middle of the scene .. after all, the audience should be impressed by the message and not by the size of the loudspeakers.

Time for some Tech-Talk today. We´re gonna talk about one of the smart little ideas that make SEQUENZA10 first choice for venues around the world that are aiming for the best sound possible. “At first glance, the SEQUENZA10 line array is designed like a classic d'appolito box. Two 10 "cone drivers are symmetrically arranged around a high-frequency-waveformer. In order to turn this well-known principle into the passive 2 + 1-way system of the SEQUENZA10, we use the" Frequency-dependent Line Coupling ", or FLC for short, technology” says Arne Muscheites, Head of Research and Development at K&F. “If the two 10 " low frequency drivers were to play in parallel up to the crossover frequency of the tweeter, there would be a clear constriction in the horizontal radiation, as is usual with other loudspeaker systems of this type. To prevent this, one of the two bass drivers is already cut off at 400 Hz by a low-pass filter. In order to follow the phase response of the 10"-woofer filtered in this way, the second 10" driver receives a suitably designed all-pass filter.

The resulting system has the uniform dispersion of a 2-way system combined with the powerful low-frequency reproduction of an additional low-frequency path, a 2 + 1 system.” Well said, Arne. We think that this is one of the multiple solutions that makes the difference between good and great.

When Martin Kling & Jürgen Freitag started building loudspeakers together in the 1980s, it was not about “target markets” or “sales figures”, but rather the idea of ​​how a loudspeaker should sound and the uncompromising implementation of all the things that were necessary to reach the highest level. As is the case with all good things, word got around that you could buy good speakers from Martin and Jürgen, and at some point the whole thing was too big to be done "on the side". This is how Kling & Freitag GmbH was brought into being in 1991 and - it's hard to believe - this year is 30 years ago! We will use our anniversary year to repeatedly provide interesting insights into our history and also to continue working on a successful future.
