Meta has laid off around 8,000 employees as part of a major restructuring aimed at making the company more focused on artificial intelligence. The cuts, affecting about 10% of Meta’s global workforce, come as CEO Mark Zuckerberg pushes deeper investment in AI.

The company has also reassigned thousands of staff to AI-related projects. The changes have raised concerns among employees over job security, workplace data use, and the growing role of AI inside the company.

As a member of the Council of Europe, the Pan African Youth Union is pleased to share this opportunity and encourages eligible young people to apply for the second edition of the HEY Online Training Course on Data Protection, which will be held in French starting on 1 June 2026.

The training course aims at providing young people with a better understanding of data protection, including the associated challenges, risks, and potential solutions, so that they can participate safely and responsibly in the digital space. This course will equip participants with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and tools to enhance their personal and professional online activities. They will also be able to share these skills with other young people, helping to build stronger and more resilient digital practices.

The course is approximately 30 hours, supported by tutors and open to young people aged between 18 and 30 years old from Council of Europe member states (with priority given to North-South Centre member states) as well as from Africa and the Middle East. This course is implemented in French.

Nigeria is Africa's largest source of international students, according to UNESCO's first higher education global trends report released on Tuesday. The report says Nigeria accounted for 5% of global outbound student mobility in 2023 — meaning students leaving their home country to study abroad — making it the world's third-largest source of international students alongside Germany. China and India remained the top two sources of international students, while Nigeria ranked highest in Africa.

Maybe we can learn something from Nigeria 🇳🇬
