How you start from zero to Billion Malawi Kwacha

Starting from zero to Billion is a process I have experienced. At age 13 I realized it was hectic to ask my mum money for me to watch a football match. I then noted I had a small skill to play marble or olo where I could win some money or bottles.

Those bottles were sold and noted there was a problem in my community for children and parents alike to get snacks in a form of freezes and toffie to be sold both at home but also get them where they are found in their homes. The key is to find a need that people are willing to pay you for. It could be water, food stuff etc. Find ways of distinguishing yourself. Starting from zero to K1,000 takes identifying a basic need.

This process can be repeated until you create a big place where people can come to order from you and sale to other parts of the City.

Later on I traded my knowledge and basic skills after University for a salary but noted a need in the market to MC. MCying was a side hustle which I used to make extra money and build relationships but also helped me with my communication skills as I could stand before young and old, Presidents and villagers. In the process it opened up opportunities for career growth and learning on how to push targets and negotiate deals. These skills including the playing of chess helped me later in life in planning 5 steps ahead, being patient with a deal and how to protect what you get or something precious like you do with the Queen and King in chess and the power of focus. Golf taught me on the other hand what it means to engage with strangers on the golf course thats it was possible for me ro make cold calls to people we have never met and also the power of focus and holding your nerve when under pressure.

So back to my story I later on pushed a lot in gaining skills and education that meant doing chartered management accountancy, 2 MBAs and Chartered Banking while pursuing my work. In the process I started looking for other op

Dear Students,

Every student must have these 3 things before graduating.

University is a preparation ground where students must be equipped with every necessary tools. Do not wait to graduate to have these things but you must get them while in university because opportunities can knock and find you unprepared. If you don’t have money for it save and make sure you get them.

1. Open a bank account
Stop depending on mobile money (MTN, AIRTEL OR ZAMTEL) every student must have a bank account where he or she must be doing the savings. Move smart and secure money.

2. Passport
Get your passport and do not wait to graduate in order to get one. You must spare time, go at the passport house and make sure you have one. These documents are not difficult to obtain, most of you may get scared but listen carefully, they are not difficult to get. Get a passport even if you have no use of it now! Or even if you don’t know anyone abroad or any connections but have it ready. Start making a way for things you want. Opportunities come at any time and don’t let them find you unprepared. Start the process it’s not difficult, less than K1000 you have your passport in less than 14 days.

3. Get a drivers license
Know how to drive while in school all these are skills that can help you have an access to opportunities. Spare some time and go do driving lessons and get that drivers license in advance, have these documents ready and available they will help you and get you somewhere.

Most of you have closed schools now and use this time to obtain those documents and be on the safe side.
