Service providers operating in regulated jurisdictions are often well-advised, if not outright obliged, to obtain legal opinions on any tokens prior to listing on their platforms.

BCAS has adopted a comprehensive approach to executing and delivering legal opinions, by undertaking a two-stage process whereby its inhouse technical team analyses all relevant documentation pertaining to a token or project, and then coordinates with the legal team to deliver a comprehensive report that includes the technical analysis along with the legal opinion itself.

This process gives a final classification of the token according to the applicable laws of the jurisdiction in which the legal opinion is sought.

Cryptocurrency exchanges are amongst the favourite victims of cybersecurity attacks.

🔸By the end of 2019, over USD 1.7 billion in digital currencies had been lost to hacks, and even the most reputable of operators are not immune to cybersecurity breaches. The impact can vary in its severity, mainly dependent on the amount of time an exchange has been in operation and its implemented security measures. Exchanges can therefore suffer from financial loss, a damaged reputation and disrupted business operations, in some cases leading to an irrevocable shutdown.

Historically, the following are among the most common vulnerabilities of exchanges, which hackers have successfully exploited:

1. Susceptibility to phishing
2. Lack of hot wallet protection
3. Weak employee login credentials
4. Software vulnerabilities

Cryptocurrency exchange operators need to be aware of threats at any stage of the software development life cycle, which is why adequate measures should assess different vectors.

🛡At BCAS, we are able to assist you in all your cybersecurity needs whether it is simply a pe*******on test or a holistic cybersecurity and governance plan.
