Turing partners with TCL for next smartphone

Turing Robotic Industries (TRI) partnered with TCL Communications to produce what was described as “the world’s first mass-produced Liquidmorphium smartphone”, which it also said will “feature amplified intelligence, with a dedicated enhanced-concierge service”.

Called Appassionato, the device features an AI-powered assistant called “Sir Alan”, which it said provides users with “finely-tuned, relevant lifestyle and business recommendations”.

TCL also said it will use TRI’s “robust mobile defence platform” integrated with Android 7.11 and powered by a Qualcomm chip.

While TRI attracted headlines with its earlier efforts, its first Turing Phone – powered by Jolla’s Sailfish platform – was not welcomed with open arms. Syl Chao, CEO, said: “We have gathered invaluable feedback from owners of the first generation Turing Phone which motivated us to make necessary adjustments to improve our mobile service offerings.”

The TCL deal will at least give the TRI an experienced manufacturing partner, which already offers devices under its own, Alcatel and BlackBerry brands.

Huawei P10 performance under the spotlight

Huawei came under fire when it was revealed some versions of its P10 and P10 Plus flagships are faster than others – with no way for buyers to tell which are which.

The issue stems from the fact the company is using “multiple simultaneous mainstream solution suppliers” for components, in order to meet global demand for millions of units. As a result, buyers receive devices where there are significant differences in configuration, which is reflected in performance, Android Authority reported.

A Huawei statement to the publication noted its specification documents do not specify which type of memory it uses. “There are no period batches or manual selection for chip batches, nor is there any discrimination or intention to defraud consumers”, it continued.

However, this means consumers do not know in advance if they are getting the highest performing version, or one which uses lower-spec components.

MyKronoz picks up backing for hybrid smartwatch

Wearables player MyKronoz raised almost $4 million on Kickstarter to help fund its ZeTime smartwatch, which it describes as the first hybrid watch “combining mechanical hands with a full round colour touchscreen”.

The company said ZeTime uses “groundbreaking technology to enable a hole to be cut in the centre of a round TFT colour display, allowing mechanical watch hands to pass through”. This blends the design of a standard watch with smartwatch features, “at an accessible price”.

ZeWatch is currently available on Kickstarter for $139: it will be available for retail by September 2017, priced from $200.

The Facebook-based Image Sharing Service has launched a new feature for users of the platform via Android, which is to operate the application in offline mode, provided that such feature is available to iOS users later, according to Facebook announced during its conferences For developers F8.

This feature began to reach a number of users in certain parts of the world, and a Facebook software engineer explained the new situation of not connecting to the Internet for Android users through a session at the Developers Conference entitled "Building Internet Offline Experiences".

Facebook is geared towards providing users with Android as the preferred system in the developing world, with 80% of the 600 million users outside the United States, so it was necessary for the service to provide a better experience for users with limited or slow Internet access .

Users who are offline can see previously uploaded content, leave comments and responses, save photos and videos, and cancel people after all of this is done when you reconnect to the Internet. The profiles of previously visited users remain visible .

Older versions of the User's "Explore" tab or profile also appear, so offline features override the ability to save a draft or add photos to the personal account that the app previously provided to users when they try to post something while there are network problems.

Facebook says it makes the service more usable when offline, to improve the experience of users in countries with poor Internet access or access, which could be a major engine for rapid application growth in places outside United State.

Integrator is not the only company to develop its platform for the use of less data. At the beginning of April, the Twitter blogging platform introduced a new web browser called Lite, developed in coordination with Google, designed for the mobile web and focused on improving Quality of service for areas with limited communication.
