Last week Mappost travelled to Denmark to meet with Dansk Retursystem A/S, the operator of Denmark's deposit return system. ♻️

We got the chance to confirm our hypothesis that a deposit return system is fundametally the reverse model of the vending industry from a route and fleet planning perspective – a field we know well from years of experience. DRS is also on an ambitious journey toward a fully electric fleet by 2030, which pairs perfectly with our ongoing research into EV route optimization. It's exciting to see how our expertise in these two areas resonates with the challenges of modern deposit return systems. Pagājušajā nedēļā Mappost devās uz Dāniju, lai tiktos ar Dānijas depozīta sistēmas operatoru Dansk Retursystem A/S. Mums bija iespēja apstiprināt savu hipotēzi, ka depozīta sistēma no maršrutu un flotes plānošanas skatupunkta pēc būtības ir vendinga industrijas reversais modelis – joma, kuru labi pārzinām no daudzu gadu pieredzes. DRS ir arī uzstādījis ambiciozu mērķi līdz 2030. gadam pāriet uz pilnībā elektrisku floti, kas lieliski sasaucas ar mūsu aktīvo pētniecības projektu elektrotransporta maršrutu optimizācijā. Bija aizraujoši redzēt, kā mūsu pieredze šajās divās jomās tiešā veidā sasaucas ar modernu depozīta sistēmu izaicinājumiem. We're excited to announce that Mappost has begun working with Digital Agency of Oslo Municipality on optimizing transport logistics for home care services, part of the municipality's "Stay Home Longer (Bo hjemme lenger)" program. 🏡🩺

The project aims to cut down time spent on administrative tasks and travel time, freeing up home care employees to spend more time on their core mission – caring for Oslo's residents and supporting their independence at home.

We're currently working on a research project on electric vehicle for commercial fleets. So far, we've gathered ~180 specific requirements from real companies using in waste management, courier services, and municipal operations – and some insights have been surprising. 🔋 💡

Firstly, it is evident that companies want their electric vehicles visible in high-traffic areas. It's not just about efficiency – there's a strategic value in showcasing green investments to customers and the public.

Secondly, it's also route character, not only distance, that determines EV suitability. Urban routes with frequent stops recover 60-80% of energy through regenerative braking, while regional routes only recover 20-30%. The same vehicle can perform differently depending on the type of route.

Not only that, charging logistics get complex fast – with often limited charging points and long charging times, sequencing becomes critical. Which truck charges first and how to you turn waiting time into productive time?

Last week we joined Cleantech Latvia cluster members at CleanR Grupa's recycling facilities to see circular economy principles in action.

We saw that the impact is tangible, like wood chips from construction waste fueling cogeneration plants, separated plastics avoiding landfills and crushed stones returning to construction. 🔄

Our work at Mappot focuses on optimizing construction waste – container dispatch, collection routes, last-minute request handling. Efficient sorting and logistics is where the circular economy begins – once materials reach sorting and recovery facilities efficiently, the rest of the value chain follows.

shares the basics with municipal waste collection but the operational reality is completely different.

Construction sites are dynamic environments where nothing stays the same. The most common question is "When do you need this service?" and the answer is often "Yesterday!"

The real challenge? Manual planning chaos. Multiple specialists juggling containers in Excel spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups, trying to coordinate who needs what, where, and when. Without a unified system, no one has a complete picture of what's happening across operations.

And here's the uncomfortable truth that surfaces when companies try to automate: bad data is often the real bottleneck. Inconsistent addresses, unclear container specifications, outdated details – they stay silent in manual processes but become obvious obstacles to optimization.

Nesen Mappost vadītājs Mārtiņš Vimba ciemojās Ropažu vidusskola, lai 6B klasei pastāstītu par uzņēmējdarbību un maršrutu optimizāciju. 📚

Saruna bija ne tikai izglītojoša, bet arī praktiska – skolēniem bija uzdevums savienot 15 punktus plaknē ar iespējami īsāko līniju. Vai zini, ka šādam uzdevumam ir 1.3 trilijoni dažādu risinājumu?

👥 Skolēni pēc nodarbības dalījās ar saviem secinājumiem:
💬 “Uzņēmējdarbība ir grūta un ir jābūt gudram vairākos priekšmetos, piemēram, matemātikā, ģeogrāfijā un citos"
💬 “Uzņēmējdarbību nevar veidot, ja tev nav smadzenes(..) Lai maršrutu izveidotu, ir jāizmanto matemātiku un loģiku"
💬 “Lai efektīvāk taisītu maršrutus, nav jāmeklē tuvākos maršrutus, bet izdevīgākos, lai nav jātērē laiks"
💬 “Ir jāatrod visīsākie ceļi, lai nebankrotētos, un jābrauc ar vairākām mašīnām"
💬 "Es atceros, ka, ja Tu neiznes miskasti, Tev dubultā jāmaksā"
💬 “Cik jums dienā ir jāuztaisa risinājumi?"
Un mūsu atbilde ir, ka veidojam vairākus simtus optimizētu risinājumu jeb maršrutu dienā!

Recently, Mappost CEO Mārtiņš Vimba visited Ropaži Secondary School to talk to class 6B about entrepreneurship and route optimization. 📚

The session was not only educational but also practical — the students were given a task to connect 15 points on a plane using the shortest possible line. Did you know that this kind of problem has 1.3 trillion different solutions?

👥 After the session, students shared their takeaways:
💬 "Entrepreneurship is hard, and you have to be smart in several subjects, like math, geography, and others"
💬 "You can't build a business if you don't have brains (...) To create routes, you need to use math and logic"
💬 "To make routes more efficiently, you shouldn't just look for the closest ones, but the most cost-effective, so you don't waste time"
💬 "You have to find the shortest paths so you don't go bankrupt, and you have to use multiple vehicles"
💬 "I remember that if you don’t take out the trash, you have to pay double"
💬 "How many solutions do you have to make in a day?"
Our answer: we create several hundred optimized solutions — routes — every single day!

As part of the Bridging4Growth delegation, Mappost visited Tashkent, Uzbekistan on November 4-8 to connect with industry leaders and explore opportunities in route and resource optimization. 🇺🇿

We had a chance to explore the vibrant Uzbekistan market alongside representatives from six countries. Throughout the week, we engaged in impactful discussions with the Investment Promotion Agency, attended European Economic Days, and met with strategic ministries to explore new partnerships in route and resource optimization. Meetings with leaders in the postal and waste management sectors, as well as the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, allowed us to present our solutions and discuss concrete business opportunities, setting the stage for potential collaborations in Uzbekistan’s logistics and environmental sectors.

This mission was a fantastic opportunity to network, learn, and pave the way for future collaborations in Uzbekistan. 📢🌍

🌍 On 30.09.-01.10. Mappost attended ENVIROMANAGEMENT 2024 in the beautiful High Tatras, Slovakia! This event brought together industry leaders from 20 European countries, all focused on innovative ways to address waste challenges.

Our Business Development Manager, Konstantins Makejevs, had the opportunity to present about Advanced Route and Resource Planning Optimization in Waste Collection Logistics. He discussed how innovative technologies and intelligent planning can improve waste collection processes, cutting costs and reducing environmental impact. We were excited to share insights and exchange ideas with experts from across Europe, working together toward a sustainable future. ♻️
