This week, Ihar Duboiski, Leading Forensic Expert at Regula, conducted a specialized training session for representatives of the Royal Oman Police following the delivery of the Regula 4308 Video Spectral Comparators.

The training took place at the Document Examination Laboratory of the Royal Oman Police, where experts explored practical approaches to forensic document examination using both the equipment and Regula Information Reference Systems (IRS).

Manufactured at Regula’s production facility in Latvia, the Regula 4308 is considered one of the most advanced video spectral comparators available today, bringing a comprehensive set of forensic examination tools together in a single system.

Key features of the Regula 4308 include:
• Dual high-resolution cameras: 14 MP top camera and 12 MP bottom camera
• Motorized oblique illumination for enhanced surface analysis
• Motorized movable object stage for precise examination
• Advanced spectral imaging capabilities for document authentication and examination

The extensive expertise, meticulous approach, and attention to detail demonstrated by the Royal Oman Police's officers enabled productive knowledge exchange and will support the efficient adoption of new examination capabilities in their daily work.

How much does identity verification really cost? The answer is more complicated than a price per transaction.

Deployment model, verification depth, retries, document coverage, support, and even the definition of a "verification" can dramatically change the total cost of ownership.

In a new article, Nikita Dunets, Vice President of Digital Identity Verification at Regula, explains how different pricing models work and what questions every buyer should ask before signing a contract.

If you're evaluating IDV providers, this is a must-read.

How much can a barcode tell you about an identity document?

More than many people realize. From personal data to document-specific information, barcodes help organizations retrieve critical information in seconds and streamline verification processes.

Our latest blog breaks down how barcode reading works for IDs, passports, and driver's licenses.

Was it a real person passing the verification check — or software acting like one? For online identity verification, this question is becoming harder to answer.

Regula’s new global study found that 35% of organizations report activity in online identity checks that they cannot confidently attribute to a real person or to automation.

That means a verification flow can look normal on the surface:
• Document uploaded.
• Selfie submitted.
• Account created.
• Access restored.

But behind the screen, the business may still not know what actually completed the process.
A human?
A bot?
An AI agent?

This is where identity fraud is changing. It is no longer only about fake documents or stolen credentials. It is about activity that passes through digital systems looking legitimate, while the actor and their intentions behind it remain unclear.

The next big challenge in identity verification is detecting what is fake and proving what is real.

Modern identity documents are becoming more complex. So are document fraud techniques.

Join Regula’s upcoming webinar to explore the upgraded Regula 4308M, our flagship dual-video spectral comparator for in-depth forensic document examination.

During the webinar, you will see how Regula 4308M helps experts examine identity documents, banknotes, handwriting, security features, and complex forensic cases using advanced optics, spectral capabilities, motorized examination tools, Regula Forensic Studio, and Regula’s Information Reference System.

The main focus will be on two key upgrades:
• Full-page blind embossing visualization
See how the new coaxial light source helps visualize blind embossing and surface structures across the whole ID card or passport page.
• Dual filter turret system
Learn how precise control of the observation band helps improve ink differentiation and supports expert confidence in complex or borderline cases.

The webinar will include a product overview by Sergei Belkin, Head of Product Marketing for Hardware Solutions at Regula, and practical examination examples from Ihar Duboiski, Leading Forensic Expert at Regula.

Can identity really be trusted after a single verification?

This question was at the center of Arif Mamedov's presentation at Identity Week Europe, where he explored the transition from one-time age checks to continuous identity assurance.

The strong audience engagement confirmed that the industry is actively looking for more effective ways to balance security, compliance, and user experience.

If you're attending Identity Week Europe, stop by Booth 904 and meet the Regula team: Arif Mamedov, Maris Kaminskis, Dmitrijs Bobrovs, and Olga Eglite.

A kid doesn’t always need to bypass age verification. Sometimes, they simply use an account that has already passed it. This is one of the biggest blind spots in age assurance.

Regulation is pushing more organizations to verify age at onboarding, but many digital services still operate on a simple assumption: once verified, always trusted.

Reality is more complicated. Accounts are shared. Devices change hands. Verified profiles can be transferred or misused. Children gain access through accounts originally created by adults.

At Identity Week Europe 2026, Regula CEO Arif Mamedov will challenge one of the assumptions in digital trust during his session: "Verified Once, Assumed Forever: From One-Time Age Checks to Continuous Identity Assurance."

The discussion will explore why many age assurance failures are not technology failures at all, but design failures — and what organizations can do to maintain trust long after onboarding.

Can you trust a document examination result if the conditions are far from ideal?

Poor lighting, limited workspace, time pressure, and increasingly sophisticated document fraud make field document verification more challenging every year.

That is why compact examination devices must help border control officers make reliable decisions wherever the examination takes place.

We explored this challenge while enhancing the Regula 1031 compact document examiner.

Learn more in the article about the challenges of field document verification and the technology designed to address them: https://regulaforensics.com/blog/introducing-regula-1031/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=post&utm_content=06042026

What do you think is the biggest limitation of field document verification today?
