For years now, we've been proud to support Sengirė / The Ancient Woods , a non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting Lithuania's oldest forests for future generations.
This year, we're joining the launch of their new campaign, Miškobank—the world's first symbolic pension fund for forests. Instead of financial capital, it invests in natural capital, with the greatest return being living, mature forests and the biodiversity they sustain. 🪲
The campaign aims to purchase and permanently protect three valuable forest plots in Lithuania from logging.
The average age of Lithuania's forests is just 53 years, while forests older than 200 years cover only around 0.0009% of the country's land area. Yet these mature and old-growth forests are essential for healthy ecosystems and the thousands of species that depend on them.
