Lithuania and Palestine continue practical knowledge exchange on AI and digital government
As part of Lithuania's continued support to GovTech Lab Palestine, two knowledge-transfer sessions have brought together the Palestinian Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital Economy and representatives of Palestinian public institutions to explore how Artificial Intelligence can be applied in government effectively and responsibly.
These knowledge-transfer activities form part of a Republic of Lithuania development cooperation initiative, funded through the Lithuanian Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme and implemented through the Lietuvos biuras Ramaloje/Lithuanian Representative Office in Ramallah, part Užsienio reikalų ministerija. NRD Companies serves as the project implementer in close cooperation with MTDE Palestine.
The first session, Artificial Intelligence in Digital Government, explored how governments are using AI today, emerging public-sector applications, institutional readiness and the opportunities and risks associated with AI adoption.
Building on the questions and interest raised by participants, the second session, AI in Government: From Opportunity to Responsible Use, focused on the practical foundations needed for responsible adoption, including:
• data governance, privacy and the responsible use of sensitive information;
• human oversight and public-sector accountability;
• institutional readiness for AI adoption;
• responsible procurement, monitoring and governance of AI solutions.
The sessions also created space for practical discussion between Lithuanian experts and Palestinian public institutions on real questions facing governments as they explore AI, from protecting sensitive data to determining where AI can create meaningful public value.
By sharing Lithuania's experience in digital government, GovTech and responsible technology adoption, the initiative supports stronger institutional capacity and informed experimentation with emerging technologies in Palestine.
