General information
Agile
Agile Project Management is one of the revolutionary methods introduced for practice of project management. “Agile Project Management is an iterative process that focuses on customer value first, team interaction over tasks and adapting to current business reality rather than following a prescriptive plan” (ThoughtWorks). Agile applies diversity of well-known Software development methods such as Scrum, Kanban, Agile Modeling, Crystal Methods, Extreme programming, Lean Software development and others. Furthermore, all those methods are meant to make routine process easier. Nowadays two of the most common methods in use are Scrum and Kanban. Scrum
Scrum is one of the well-known and powerful Agile Software developement methodologies. This methodology improves productivity of teams and facilitate project mangement process. Scrum method was started to use in 1990’s and is developing up to nowadays. This methodology is great for its flexibility. It might be combined not only with Extreme Programming but also with all other methodologies. What is more, in Scrum projects are divided into small tasks, known as sprints, which are frequent from one week to one month. In the end of each sprint team members meet to discuss about the project workflow and plan next steps of current project. The set of rules in Scrum creates a great structure for the team to stay focused on its goals. In other words, Scrum structure allows to deal with difficulties such as removing obstackles to complete the sprint and dealing with essential problems when development gets chaotic. To continue with, burndown charts in Scrum shows remaining work in the sprint backlog. This allows to see the progress of sprints and ensures that the most valuable tasks will be completed on time, precisely when the project ends. Finally, Scrum ensures that project goals will be accomplished. Kanban
Kanban methodology is less popular than Scrum but it is increasingly catching up the Scrum. Kanban is a continuous flow process that tells what, when and how much to produce. This method is incremental approach that visualizes the current process. The Kanban board is divided into three parts which provides access of tasks: which ones are in a progress and which are already done. Moreover, users are allowed to use separate columns for tasks of different priority in a backlog. In addition, Kanban board has a limit to the number of tasks you can be working on in order to avoid multitasking. Also, Kanban board allows to monitor performance and provides reports for lead and cycle time. Finally, by using Kanban methodology project team can focus on controllable value delivery and lean on waste process. Features
