Your online store can be fast and beautiful, yet still be impossible for some customers to use.
That is the problem the European Accessibility Act aims to solve.
The Act was introduced to reduce barriers for people with disabilities and replace fragmented national rules with a more consistent framework across the EU. Older people also benefit from the same accessibility improvements.
For e-commerce, this means making key journeys easier to perceive, understand, navigate and complete.
In UX practice, that includes readable text, sufficient contrast, keyboard navigation, screen-reader-friendly labels, clear forms and accessible checkout flows.
The rules apply to many, but not all, e-commerce businesses. For example, microenterprises providing services are generally exempt.
