At valantic LT, Saulius Petreikis – Engineering Manager at valantic LT – is known for his ability to motivate and support, to encourage continuous learning, and to passionately seek out the best projects for his team.

Last year for him was very intense. Although leading in an official capacity was new to Saulius, he managed to grow his team and help to establish the company’s internal rules and procedures. “Switching from writing code to talking for a living was a fundamental change. This line of work does come with the occasional frustrating moment here and there, but overall it’s a great feeling to be helping people succeed”.

According to Saulius, what distinguishes the company’s employees is their flexibility and openness. These were made necessary because valantic LT has multiple foreign partners and mixed teams. Despite it not being easy, however, the team managed to adapt remarkably well.

“I like to say that valantic LT is a young startup with old and very big clients. For this reason, our focus is quality, processes, and communication – not just the technical part”. With this in mind, Saulius says that, as cliché as it may sound, to succeed here one must be willing to step out of their comfort zone and keep learning all the time.

In fact, his team has designated 2023 as the “year of learning and growth”. To this end, Saulius and his colleagues even identified the qualities of a real engineer to facilitate this process. “My wish for my team? To never cease learning, regardless of the level that’s already been achieved. If you stop – it’s not simply a pause, but actual regression”.

As 2024 is getting closer, it's the perfect time to revise the plans and align on our future strategy. We've started the week with a guest visit from valantic HQ - Timo Huguet, Oscar Corrales and Alejandro Ponce. Together with Paulius Insoda, Paulius Kaminskas and Saulius Petreikis they've discussed broader business development opportunities and worked on actionable points towards sustainability and growth of valantic LT.

Things are looking truly exciting, we’re looking forward to a prosperous future! 🚀

Kudos to everyone who joined valantic’s Hackathon 2023: Halloween Edition 19-20 October – it was an absolute blast and a pleasure to hang out with you all in person!

For those who were rooting for us, here are some of the main challenges our valiant dev team, consisting of 🇱🇹Osvaldas Beniušis, 🇱🇹Miglė Zubavičiūtė, and 🇱🇹Zbigniev Antonovič, jointly tackled during the event:

Building an app for Football-Betting using Flutter (last time, we implemented Football-Betting as a microservice using Symfony and RabbitMQ).
Implementing a customer’s storefront using Oryx (a framework for building storefronts that offers a rich library of components, a render engine, and a design system).
Developing a shop crawler with a .CSV output using Python – a super-fun and complex data extraction challenge at the crossroads of technology and commerce.
Crafting a cutting-edge website for Valantic using Three.js, aiming for a visually stunning look with animations and interactive elements.

Thanks in no small part to common breakfast and lunch – as well as a surprise 🍕Pizza for All 🍕on Thursday! – fun team-building sessions and friendly participants, the hackathon was a total and utter success.

And this goes to show once again the collaborative spirit of valantic, which welcomes “valantics” to all of its events not only from Germany, but from across the rest of the 🇪🇺 EU and beyond.

We're excited to share a recap of our recent "The valantic Women Power" event, where our colleagues Asya Tsyplia and Kristina Rudzinskaitė, Front-End Software Engineers at valantic LT, presented a topic "The magic behind AI: Understanding the Technical Side, Real-Life Applications, and Harnessing the Power of ChatGPT".

“As we decided to talk about AI, first thing we did was to try to harness the power of AI ourselves. For instance, our presentation slides were crafted using an AI-powered tool. After we input raw concepts and initial text, it transformed them into polished slides, meticulously organized into coherent topics and structured lists. A touch of refinement, and they were ready to shine 🌟”

The event kicked off with a glance at several emerging technologies, including the Internet of Things, Blockchain, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence. The focus then shifted to Artificial Intelligence, where speakers delved into the fundamentals of AI, breaking down its operational principles into manageable steps. They explored how AI enhances various industries, such as Finance, Customer Service, Social Media, Healthcare, Smart Home Devices, and Transportation. “For example, did you know that in a recent study, AI models provided with MRI-scanned images achieved an accuracy of 98.56% in brain tumor classification?”, raised the question Kristina. During the presentation they also showcased the tools and examples of how AI can provide valuable insights and benefits across diverse professional domains.

Speakers wrapped up with a focus on ChatGPT. They revealed lesser-known and non-standard features of this tool. Valuable insights were shared, aiming to improve prompt engineering techniques, ensuring that ChatGPT would give more accurate answers: “For example, accuracy could be boosted by providing a clear template/example for the desired output in your prompt. Pro tip from the research crew – it's not whether your examples are perfect, but more about creating the right framework. Whether your examples are correct or not, include labels of what output you want to get. This will help you improve results and instruct the model on how to format the answer to the prompt,” shared Asya.

Having come to valantic LT with no e-commerce experience, our Senior Software Engineer and mentor Karolis Krušinskas is very happy with his growth over the past year since he joined us 🚀

Up to that point, he used JavaScript and TypeScript, which has been beneficial as he now tackles more complex Serverless Back-End solutions that rely on these languages. “Before, I was primarily building system applications and web projects. E-commerce, on the other hand, has an entirely different business logic, which I had to master. It’s an entirely new stage in my professional development”.

While Karolis is learning daily on the job, he’s also appreciative of valantic LT’s monthly Learning Days. “These provide an excellent way to pick up new technologies or, especially, to maintain one’s skill in those not currently in active use” 💻

Karolis is also glad to be part of a young collective, driven to learn and to always move forward. What does it take to really thrive at the company? Karolis says it’s perseverance. “Sometimes, you need to struggle against yourself, do whatever it takes. You won’t always succeed right away, but if you stay the course and don’t give up early, you’ll be richly rewarded”.Karolis highlights the importance of seeking excellence in communication. “I say, if communication is on point, the project will turn out well – no doubt about it”.

Our Software Engineer, Miglė Zubavičiūtė, used to work on e-commerce projects for the Lithuanian market and is now quickly becoming a master of Spryker. In fact, her diligence at work enables her to often hit targets even sooner than expected 🚀

Her journey at valantic LT started with 2-3 weeks of individual training, after which she enrolled in an intensive 2-week Spryker course at our Academy. “When I finally started working, I quickly realized just how thoroughly I’ve been prepared by my instructors for the hands-on work that followed”.

Having been with us for over a year, Miglė says she really appreciates how much time we dedicate to feedback. “At first, I thought I would be coding pretty much all day. In reality, however, we have frequent meetings and discussions, which is great because it allows us all to understand the big picture. I also love that feedback is two-way, e.g., I’m often asked how I’m doing and whether I enjoy my current project”.

For Miglė, effective communication and the genuine desire to help each other are the two distinguishing features of valantic LT’s workforce. “To succeed here, you must not fear trying new things and making mistakes. And this is quite easy to do when you have a supportive team rooting for you”.
