Pitago Optimizers

Pitago Optimizers How much lumber is in a log? As much as your decisions allow. It shows real recovery and value yield so margin is engineered, not left.

Pitago models log breakdown before the first cut, simulating any diameter, kerf, product mix and sawmill setup. Pitago is a timber cutting simulator enabling you to see what you get at the end of the sawing operation, thus making the wood output optimal. Today the sawing is often optimized online after laser scanning of the logs. However, you may need to check your ideas at the office before/witho

ut affecting the production. Pitago is the tool for quick and advanced analysis for sawmill production planning and estimation. Key features: ❶timber cutting patterns, ❷timber list, ❸timber volume, ❹timber price, ❺log yield, ❻wood waste volume, ❼report in Excel, ❽waney edge timber, ❾conversion between imperial and metric units. Pitago is a web application. It allows you to get estimates of your logs and make a business offer, price evaluation, or production plan within seconds at the place where you are.

Not everyone who visits our page shares our perspective on log optimization software, and that's completely fair.

Here are a few comments we've received recently:

💬 "I've been sawing logs for 30 years. The day a phone app understands a crooked log better than my eyes is the day I'll retire."
💬 "Looks great in a demo. Out in the mud, rain, and sawdust? Most operators will trust experience over software every time."
💬 "By the time I measure, enter all the data, and wait for recommendations, I've already made the first cuts."
💬 "Every log is different. Yield comes from reading the wood, not following a computer-generated cut list."
💬 "Seems like a solution looking for a problem. Skilled sawyers have been maximizing lumber recovery long before apps existed."
💬 "Love it when I show up to a portable job and someone hands me a list like this—hahaha."
💬 "Not to be disrespectful to anybody in the software business, but there are times the human brain processes the information we see in front of us faster than we could possibly enter the data into a computer."
💬 "Do you really imagine anyone who knows their way around milling logs requires an app to properly cut their lumber? This is just silly."

This LOG CUT CALCULATOR
https://pitago.eu/log-cut-en.php
lets you enter log dimensions (length, diameter, kerf) and computes cutting lists and cutting plans.
With this powerful tool, all you need are the lumber width and thickness.

Given the size and shape of this log, here's the mathematically optimal way to slice it into lumber.
It's a real-world application of geometry, optimization algorithms, and manufacturing economics in a sawmill.

Margin is no longer left in the log.
We are taking the guesswork out of breakdown decisions, using technology and the cold math of optimization to engineer higher recovery and greater value before the first cut.

When you're dealing with a 30" diameter, a standard cutting pattern usually leaves way too much whitespace.
Here is a perfect example of how Pítago squeezed a 64.4% yield out of a single log, pulling three 8×8 cants, six 6×6s, and a massive mix of 2×12s and 1×10s to clean up the edges.
What’s your go-to strategy for recovery cuts?
