Is it safe to have your IT back office in Sri Lanka?
Yes it is!
I work in one of those offices. Yes we don't have electricity for so many hours a day. But we have generators keep providing electricity. Those who are working from home, stay up in the night to cover up the work they would have missed during power cuts. We have mobile internet even during power cuts. So we are able to join meetings. More than anything, you will have the most amazing dedicated staff.
Is it safe to travel to Sri Lanka?
Unless you visit here expecting a very comfortable holiday in a paradise, it's more or less the same as before.
If you use public transportation, those work as usual. If you hire a vehicle, drivers would make sure they will stay in fuel queues and fill tanks. So that should not affect you. Cost of living here is sky rocketed. Almost all the goods are 3 or 4 times increased during past two years. But you won't die with hunger. Hotels will provide food. Markets have local food. You can check the prices and deals online before you come. Not much medicine in hospitals, but doctors would do anything to save a patient.
Are there riots?
No riots. Peaceful protests against our incapable president and his "billion dollar theif" family members. Protests are done mainly by professionals, university students, priests and other peace loving citizens requesting the president to step down.
Few random incidents were there which we believe is created by government it self to instill fear. Few activitists arrested initially. But hundreds of lawyers appeared on behalf of them and managed to got them released.
Police cannot openly support, but they stay neutral without clashing with protesters.
So all good. You can visit Sri Lanka just as before. We are living here. You too can.
Copied.
