Attention Twitter users! Starting next week, Twitter will begin removing 'legacy' blue checkmarks. This move is part of the platform's push to boost its subscription revenue through Twitter Blue and Verification for Business subscribers. Twitter hopes that by prompting verified users to pay for their blue tick, it can increase its number of subscribers. However, this approach is flawed because charging users for exclusivity and perceived reputational value will dilute the value of the blue tick over time. Even if every legacy checkmark holder were to sign up and pay $8 per month, it would only add a maximum of 420k subscribers. Furthermore, removing the legacy checkmarks may result in some users tweeting even less as they no longer feel aligned to the platform.

Selling verification ticks is a flawed strategy as it undermines the very concept of what it represents. Twitter needs to offer more valuable aspects to attract subscribers. Prepare to pay up, or lose your blue tick from next week.

Microsoft is adding the Bing Image Creator to its AI-based search engine, Bing. The search engine is powered by Microsoft's advanced OpenAI language model, which has been optimized for search. The Bing Image Creator leverages the DALL-E model from OpenAI to enable users to generate images by entering a description, providing context, and selecting an art style. The integration is being released to Microsoft Edge users from today. However, it's unclear whether the new feature is available in Bing chat function yet.
