When the earth shook in Nepal, it broke my heart from miles away across the Indian Ocean.
As Sri Lankans 🇱🇰, we carry the painful memory of devastating tragedies we know the unbearable weight of losing loved ones in seconds, the silence after the collapse, and the shock that freezes your soul. But what hurts the most isn't just the wrath of nature; it is the heartbreaking reality of human nature in moments of chaos.
Among the rubble, where families are desperately searching for their mothers, fathers, and children, seeing bags scattered, personal belongings handled, and sacred memories left vulnerable in the dust leaves a profound ache. In our darkest hours, grief should unite us, not expose greed. A torn backpack isn't just luggage
it holds a child's school book, a mother's last keepsake, or an entire life’s hard-earned savings.
To our brothers and sisters in Nepal: Sri Lanka feels your pain. We share your tears, we mourn every lost soul, and we pray for strength to rebuild what was shattered.
Natural disasters test our survival, but our empathy tests our humanity. Let us never lose our heart when the ground beneath us gives way.
