Our work is not just about setting up an internet cable in your house, it’s about helping you open up to new opportunities for entertainment, education, work, and social connections, which come through the internet. We’ve been doing this since 2012, when our company was originally founded at the foothills of Mount Kenya, in Nanyuki. Today, we have expanded our coverage to 16 counties, +7,000 active users, and +300,000 hotspot customers served. We can proudly say we are Kenya’s largest internet service provider (ISP) dedicated exclusively to the rural and peri urban markets in the country. Our versatility. We employ wireless, fiber, and smart green-energy technology, making it possible to adapt to the changing terrain demands and market conditions.

“The farmer grows, the co-op grows and our community grows.”

Keith, a dairy farmer and Community Pass user in Kenya, captured the impact of the Mobilizing Access to the Digital Economy (MADE) Alliance:
Africa best in just a few words.

In Kenya, a program led by MADE Alliance partners Microsoft and Kenya National Farmers' Federation, alongside collaborating partner Mawingu, is helping transform farmer cooperatives into digital hubs. Through a new pilot program, 10,000 farmers have already been reached, connecting them to affordable and reliable internet connectivity, access to buyers and sellers, and financial services.

What’s the impact?
-62% of farmers anecdotally reported higher monthly income after gaining digital access

-3% credit limit increase for co-ops with digitized farmer records

-100% of connected co-ops reported improved day-to-day operations

The MADE Alliance was created to bring public, private, and local partners into the same communities – coordinating action so solutions can move
faster and reach further.

With an ambition to expand digital access to millions of individuals and businesses across Africa, this milestone is a reminder of what’s possible when partnership becomes progress.

Technology alone has never been enough.

A clinic can have the best diagnostic equipment in the world. A surgeon can be highly trained and deeply committed. But without reliable internet to connect them to specialist support, without reliable energy to power their equipment, without the partnerships that make all of it sustainable – the innovation stops at the door.

This is the reality facing healthcare systems across underserved communities in Africa and beyond. And this is the conversation Mawingu Foundation is bringing to the world stage.

Next week, at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, we will convene Connect, Power, Heal: Bundling Innovation and Partnership at the Health Frontline – a high-level dialogue bringing together Ministers of Health, technology leaders, financing institutions and frontline health workers to ask the harder questions: not just what works, but how we deliver it, finance it, and scale it to reach the people who need it most.

As our CEO Farouk Ramji puts it – the infrastructure behind healthcare is not a footnote. It is the foundation.

Reliable internet is changing how teachers teach, how learners access information, and how schools manage their day-to-day operations. Al-Fathi Integrated Primary & JSS in Garissa Township is one example of how connectivity can become an important part of a school’s learning, communication and administration.

Connected to Mawingu Wi-Fi in May 2025, the school has gained easier and more affordable access to online teaching materials, digital platforms, and communication tools.
